For the past year, the urban vinyl community has relied on Face Your Manga for all our avatar needs. But now one of our own has stepped up with an app that renders our likenesses in Kidrobocolor. That would be the awesome Tristan Eaton, whose Thunderdog Studios just released the B-BOT app for iPhone. B-BOT is the closest you will ever get your mug to a Munny. You can create your own B-BOT and also customize your contacts. When you receive a call from them, their B-BOTs will show up on the caller ID (and vice versa).

B-BOT was conceived by Tristan Eaton and Peter Cortez while working together on the 2008 Barack Obama Campaign. It was developed by Greg Elliott, the creator of SynchStep.

Face it, Shepherd Fairey is not going to be turning your likeness into an iconic poster anytime soon. Unless your name is Barack Obama — in which case, hello Mr. President! But that doesn’t mean you’re SOL. Paste Magzine and the Zazzle – a site that specializes in customizable retail objects – have teamed up to give you the opportunity to “Obamicon” yourself. Just upload an image or use your webcam, select a saying or write in your own, and share it with friends. You can even order U.S. stamps featuring your own mug. Stuck on ideas? Check out their gallery of top picks like “Fail” one featuring George W. Bush.

People are bound to have a spectrum of reactions to the Inauguration Day proceedings, so if your gut is telling you to react by buying toys, it’s ok. Barack Obama’s message inspired an unprecedented array of art toys in 2008 from action figures to vinyl busts. Now’s the time to stock up. Wizard Sleeve Toys is having a one-day 20% off sale to celebrate the inauguration of our 44th president. Whether you go in for urban or herb-n art, here’s your chance to pick up an Obama action figure at a reduced price. Just enter “NEWPREZ” at checkout.

We’ve written about the music of Daft Punk, Barack Obama action figures and Daft Punk designer toys, but I never imagined I’d have the occasion to write about all three in one post. In the latest mashup of politics and pop culture, UK DJ/producer Adam Freeland remixes Daft Punk in a video animated by the progressive directing team, GOLD. The stop-motion music video is meant to function as a celebration to commemorate the upcoming inauguration of Obama as the 44th president of the United States. While plastic Obama makes an appearance, designer toy fans will be interested to see Qees, Be@rbricks and other mini-figures getting down on the dancefloor. How many items from your own toy collection can you spot in the video?

We’ve been loving up Upper Playground at JS for years. From T-shirts and hoodies, to sneakers and skateboards, UP has consistently created apparel and accessories that fuse urban fashions and fine art. Last year was a banner year for the company and and its FIFTY24 gallery. A couple of personal highlights included Jeremy Fish’s Ghosts of the Barbary Coast solo show and UP’s line of artist-rendered Barack Obama posters. This year is off to a killer start with Alex Pardee’s Letters From Digested Children solo show, upcoming toys and compelling collaborations.

In honor of their tenth anniversary, Upper Playground’s first ever “thank you” sale begins today. The sale is good for 50% off on everything in stock at their retail stores and website. With clothes, hats, books and toys by Sam Flores, Jeremy Fish, Estevan Oriol, David Choe and Alex Pardee, there’s never a better time to stretch your dollar. Upper Playground is open 24/7 on the www and has stores and galleries in San Francisco, Berkeley, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, New York and London.

Needy dogs in shelters and Barack Obama are about to have something in common. In addition to being “mutts” like Obama, they are now also the subject of an iconic Shepard Fairey poster. As the new first family readies to move into the White House and adopt a shelter puppy, millions of other animals around the U.S. desperately await homes. Shepard was approached by Pia Salk, an animal advocate working with the non-profit Adopt-a-Pet.com, to collaborate on a way to help these animals.

Fairey says, “I’m a big believer in speaking up for all who suffer injustice, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or in this case, species!  And I’m all for adopting from the shelter. My wife and I share our home with two pooches,  George and Weezie, who is a rescue. They are the happy canine siblings to our two human daughters. The image I created for this print reminds me of a dog I had as kid, a mutt named Honey.”

The image will be available in a limited run of 400 signed and numbered silk-screen prints later this month at muttslikeme.com. Proceeds from the sale will go to getting the nation’s “furry, non-partisan residents” into homes. In true Shepard Fairey-fashion, you can also download free wheat-pasteable PDFs and digital-age web banners on the site. Get the word out!

Barack Obama will be the 44th president of the United States of America. To honor and celebrate his historic achievement, Robert Bosch, Faculty at Oberlin went ahead and created a portrait of President-Elect Obama out of 44 complete sets of double-nine dominoes. Want to do this yourself? Thought so, here are the plans by number, also after the jump.

If there’s one thing that you’ve learned from us down the stretch of this recently passed Presidential election, it could be that a lot of merchandise has been made in support of Barack Obama. The current President-Elect has inspired the sale of everything from prints to moose antlers. But what will become of all of that good stuff now that the voting is over. Well, the folks at Zazzle have taken an everything must go approach. The online T-shirt and apparel site is slashing prices 10 percent on all political merchandise before November 8th. If you’re hope is still getting the better of you and you want some Obama merch to savor the flavor of victory, all you’ve got to do is type in the promo code: ObamaZazzle. If you’re a dejected McCain supporter or ironic hipster voter whose only relief would come from a recount, you’re included too. All McCain goodies get the same treatment as long as you type in McCainZazzle for your discount. So if in the next two days anyone asks you if they can get cheap election memorabilia, you can reply, “Yes We Can!”

If everything goes the way the polls are saying, tomorrow night’s Democratic Party Election Night Celebration in Los Angeles will not only be round of hi-fives for the hard work that went into getting the apathetic behind Obama, but also a mark of success for an underground movement that helped get him elected for the important post. Shepard Fairey, who created posters of the candidate, will be DJing alongside other prominent Obama supporter Z-Trip. The star-studded event will feature guests like California Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, as well as non-politicians like Sarah Silverman and Zooey Deschanel. It’s a party that no doubt will be memorable, especially the very second when the next president is announced. I can hear the resounding roars of happiness already. The party’s free—just RSVP here, and be ready to celebrate.

Would you like a cleaner environment? Ride bike. Would you like a Democrat in the White House? Vote for Barack Obama.  Or, mash the two together with this Obama bike that just hit eBay. The bike is designed by activist Dan Funderburgh and his renowned Obama print. This bike isn’t just a print — there is only one and it is up for bids on eBay (guess where the proceeds go). For those of you bikers the specs should be rather pleasing. Have a look on the auction page. Happy bidding.

Jailbreak Toys, makers of the Barack Obama Action Figure, will present ART + ACTION = Obama 08 at Toy Tokyo’s gallery: The Showroom NYC on October 17th. Contemporary artists, toy designers and graf writers like Mars-1, Peat Wollaeger, kaNO, Brin Berliner, Brent Nolasco and Voltaire are just a handful of the customizers who will go to town on unpainted DIY Obama figures. Billboard bandit and pop surrealist Ron English will also be signing Abraham Obama posters at the show. ToyCyte is the media sponsor of ART + ACTION = Obama 08 and will be posting exclusive news and previews of the customs counting down to the event.

What’s the first order of business the next president will take care of come January? Hammering out a lasting solution to the world economic crisis? Crafting a reasonable timetable to withdraw troops from Iraq? Liaising with an increasingly dangerous Pakistan? Are you serious? It’s his presidential portrait.

Later today the trash-as-treasure guys from NYC Garbage will post their version of “President Barack Obama,” a 12″ x 16″ limited edition print that will support the Obama campaign by donating the $100 price tag to the Senator from Illinois. ($50 for their registered Republican friends)

The candidacy of Barack Obama is inspiring politically conscious artists to create at a never before seen breakneck pace. The latest artist to nod in the direction of everyone’s favorite hopemonger is Spear favorite Dan Funderburgh. Funderburgh’s most recent letter press, the red, white, and blue hued “Census“, may not directly reference the Illinois Senator, but Funderburgh hopes that it can aid his preferred candidate. All the proceeds from this limited run of 75 signed and numbered prints go directly to the Obama campaign. The poster is currently available at the I Am Still Alive Store.

According to some, the streets are at a crossroads. Not long ago, the art covering the bricks and blank spaces of the city was more likely to get you in trouble than in Christie's, but today's take leans more towards halos than handcuffs. This shift can partially be attributed to the quality of today's work (and the hype that surrounds it) but also, strangely enough, to the financial opportunities that have arisen within graffiti. No matter the game, the rules change when money and fame join the party — and they've certainly started to party with street art.

In order to suss out if these fears had a foundation, we decided to take a sit with Doodles, a 20-year-old out of the Bay Area who we consider a member of the ‘new school' of street artists. He also happens to be in school, adding another interesting element to our interview. Say hello to the future of graf art, readers — it's looking good.
