Search Resuls for: Jeremiah Palecek

Czech Painter Jeremiah Palecek has caught our attention on two previous occasions with his knack for turning familiar images from the Web into physical manifestations with just a few fancy brushstrokes. In keeping with that theme, Palecek’s latest project turns away from chiefly Web-based subjects as he lends his deft stroke to revamping previously submitted works from the Creative Commons, adding or altering elements to public domain paintings, and then resubmitting them back from whence they came. It’s like the painter’s version of the remix and it’s ever so eye-catching. The one featured (left) is an oil on canvas work called Cowboy Portal. The one next to it? You guessed it: Obama Riding a Mastodon.

It's been a little over a year since we mentioned Jeremiah Palecek and his unique brand of pop surrealism or nerd art. The Czech painter with a fondness for Nintendo and Google has his name on the tip of our tongues yet again, embracing his inner nerd with two new youtube-centric projects. For the first project, Palecek utilizes his fancy brushwork to capture the essence of some of our favorite viral video moments from over the years. Everything from the Mentos-Diet Coke fountain to the now infamous Tom Cruise Scientology video gets the canvas treatment and is available for your art-owning enjoyment.

Palecek's other youtube-centric undertaking asks viewers of his Youtube channel one simple question, ‘What should I paint?,’ Mr. Palecek will then paint whatever people write in the comment section. So, if readers ask him to paint something along the lines of say a Manatee mating with a Panda, well then he might just be inclined to draw it. What? You're not in the least bit curious what that might look like? Don't judge us!

Many of you know about Tom Judd’s successful quest to illustrate one page per day for an entire year. Well, Jeremiah Palecek had the same goal, but he is a Czech painter specializing in nerd art. To Jeremiah, ‘nerd art’ means pixelated paintings, 80’s video game art, and other nerdy forays. I have to admit, I really enjoyed browsing his work– I came across a wealth of familiar portrayals– things like the Gmail log-in box (which I see 97 times a day), and the Konami cheat code for Contra (both pictured here). Jeremiah’s paintings will make you chuckle and feel nostalgic– all good art doesn’t have to be prolific, does it? As long as it creates a favorable feeling in my gut, I’m all about it. As an added bonus, on Jeremiah’s blog, each painting is accompanied by an entry written by Jeremiah that explains what each painting means to him; he gets pretty personal in his descriptions. If you are interested in purchasing some of Jeremiah’s paintings, email him from his blog. I may have to outfit my little nerd den (a.k.a. home office) at home with some of his work!
