Search Resuls for: peter gregson

There are a couple reasons why the name Peter Gregson should be stuck on your mind. First and foremost he is the brilliant classical cellist that we’ve raved about a number of times. Second, he is reinventing the way audiences interact with performers. Remember when he set up a Twitter wall concert? This time he’s taking his relationship with Twitter to the next level — as in straight to their home base. Peter will preform a live microconcert from Twitter HQ in San Fransisco. This isn’t just a treat for the employees, it’s also being broadcast in HD for all of us. Even the program notes are 140 characters.

Prelude Suite#1 (Bach), Spiegel im Spiegel (Part), Appalachian Waltz (O’Connor), Corpus Christi Carol (Britten), Song of the Birds (Beamish)

The show begins at 1:30 p.m. PST from Peter’s site or here. It will be available for HD streaming on demand if you miss it. Follow @petergregson or @coffeeloop for any updates. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the midday musical stream from one of the best cello performers we know.

We’ve been fans of Peter Gregson for a while. The young cellist not only is amazingly talented, but his involvement with his fans is always innovative. His new project titled The Words on the Wall takes his concert into the social networking world. The audience will not only be allowed to photograph, record, blog and use their mobile phones, but they will be encouraged. To make things even more interesting they’ve set up a way to feed in all emails, text messages and Twitter comments about the concert and put them on a ‘wall’. As he plays more classical style music (this means, shhh), this is the perfect way to talk without speaking. The concert takes place on January 30th at the Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh (tickets available here for £10/£5). Not in Edinburgh? Don’t worry they’ve got the whole thing streaming in HD from Thewordsonthewall.com.

Cellist and recent nominee for the “Spirit of Scotland” award, Peter Gregson, wowed the Web in April with his live performance of the 40 part vocal motet, “Spem In Allium,” alongside five other commisioned works in eight speaker surround sound. As it turns out, the event’s sponsor, Fujitsu Ten’s Eclipse Speakers, was also quite captivated with Spemcast. They liked it so much they decided to take the show — first performed at Greyfriars Kirk in Scotland — across the pond for a promotional tour that’s sure to excite the ears of audiophiles on the American continent. The first performance will take place at Trinity Church in Boston on November 7th and will also be webcast, boasting even higher quality sound and picture than the original effort thanks to the fine folks at Fujitsu. The tour kicks into higher gear in February with shows in NYC, Michigan, San Francisco, and L.A. before hitting Japan. For more info on the Boston show and other upcoming dates, check out Gregson’s website.

While older Rock & Roll souls R.E.M. and Portishead prepare to drop new tunes on a clamoring public, we’ve kind of got a hankering for some seriously classic tunes from a newer talent. No we’re not talking about Beirut covering Jimi Hendrix; we’re referring to 21 year-old Cellist Peter Gregson. On April 25th at 7:30pm Scotland time, the Edinburgh string-smith will be performing “Spem in Alium”, a 40 part vocal motet, as well as 5 newly commissioned pieces at a show in Greyfriars Kirk being broadcast live over the Internet. We know internet concerts are nothing new but this performance is sure to be something special as it will be sponsored by Fujitsu Ten’s Eclipse speakers and will be performed in eight speaker surround sound over Spemcast, the special site set up by Gregson. If you set up your speakers just right, you’re sure to get the 15th Century concert experience. We just hope that doesn’t come with another 15th Century experience known as the black plague.
