Lately, all we’ve been hearing is sad news about the plight of the honeybees and their declining numbers. Thank goodness for conceptual artist Jonathon Keats‘ newest endeavor. Next week (July 19th to be exact) Keats will choreograph the first ever bee ballet.
By planting hundreds of precisely arranged flowers in neighborhoods in San Francisco, Keats claims the bees will “dance according to the locations of the flowers they’ve found.” Except, well, you won’t really be able to see it because they’ll be dancing back inside their hives. Says Keats, “The bees will dance for themselves, not for us.” Dance bees. Dance like nobody in is watching.
Check out the bee lines (sorry) after the jump

It’s not often animal lovers get to witness their favorite creatures in their natural habitat. However, with the help of Soop’s Etsy shop, they can use their imagination to put an entire wilderness in the palm of their hands … or at least the base of their fingers. The London-based design studio, headed up by Wai-Lian Scannell, offers a cornucopia of animals and “lush vegetation” in the form of an adorable series of rings. Wear your wild things on on your very own finger farm. They’re an ideal accessory for anyone who needs to count less than 10 sheep to get to sleep.

The Wurstminster Dog Show is now live, a project where artists were invited to reserve a dog breed on a first come, first serve basis. Every artist attempted to capture the look and spirit of each breed in their own unique way. A portion of proceeds go to a DoveLewis, a Portland, OR emergency animal hospital. It’s hard to pick favorites, but I love Dan Funderburgh’s Briard ($400), a collage on wood, Scott Rench’s Golden Retriever ($125), a slip-cast earthenware with ceramic over-glaze decals, and of course, Cody Hudson’s Akita ($800), mixed media. Browse around and support a great cause!

When I was in college, a lot of my friends went through that ‘I want a dog’ stage. I never could understand why young, jet-set people would ever want to get a dog. Who is going to take care of the dog when you leave town? Answer: their friends without dogs who chose not to get their own dog because they had the foresight to realize the difficulties that come along with being a pet owner who is frequently away from the house; funny how that works. Enter boutique pet care company Out-U-Go. Out-U-Go is leading the way toward a workable situation for on-the-go pet owners, by providing professional, detailed services like daily dog walks ($15 for 25 min. walk), kitty care, house sitting, vacation care, and critter care. A state of the art computer system allows Out-U-Go to service more clients in a given day, and provides flexibility by giving clients the capability to add, cancel, or change their reservations online or by phone. Out-U-Go currently operates in Chicago, IL, Oak Park, IL, and Denver, CO– but look for them to expand to a city near you soon.
