Bay Area creative type Cindy Liu was feeling frustrated by a lack of likeable masks in preparing for a friend's masquerade birthday party last year when she decided to create her own. When asked to describe the lovingly humorous (and androgynous) hand embroidered face scarves she now markets as Archicraft at craft fairs and on Etsy , Liu says simply: “I love moustaches and wearing bandanas…it all naturally came together.” At less than $20 a pop, they make a good gift for facial hair-challenged and good humored friends looking for moustaches in black, brown and blonde against colorful bandanas.

Vince Pacheco's work isn't easily mistaken for anyone else's. The Bay Area record collector's stack of cheesecake, kitsch and classic country records were becoming too much to deal with. Then he, along with his crafty girlfriend, got the brilliant idea to turn them into spiral journals. After receiving positive feedback during his first craft season, Pacheco, who sells his wares as Etsy's Vinyl Frontier, now searches thrift stores for materials after burning through his personal collection. Journals featuring popular artists and musicals go quickly (including Dolly Parton, Sound of Music, and the Beatles), although there are requests of all kinds (Steely Dan and Barbara Mandrell among them). The frontier man doesn't only rescue and reuse board games and library books. Many of his journals contain recycled paper and all can be sent back and refilled for a small fee. Sounds sustainable and chic.

If the long, striking faces created for the stop-motion film Coraline have you pining for more handmade figures, the work of Sarah Faber (AKA Black-eyed Suzie) may be up your alley. The Montreal-based artist's wide-eyed dolls are beautifully displayed in a recent Etsy Handmade Portraits series video by Tara Young. Faber describes being influenced by Gothic novels and Victorian and Elizabethan costumes. But, lest you think it's all child's play, the dolls include some darker elements and are said to look as though they've “had a few too many Scotchs and tardy makeup.” A perfect way to cater to the tattered goth in you.

Most couples have something they do really well together. Maybe it’s partners in a card game. Maybe it’s karaoke — whatever, it’s something that they can use to show their power-couple-abilities. Kirk and Eva started Sycamore Street Press to create stationary and paper products using vintage letterpress techniques. Oh, and they’re more talented than you and your significant other. Check out their Etsy store for a whole host of hand-pressed paper goods and follow their blog for some fun couple things and creative inspiration.

Joshua Gorchov has already done some impressive editorial/commercial graphic design work that has graced the pages of several major magazines, but his next project promises to be epic. In preparation Gorchov has launched a new website, The Big Black Cloud. The site marks the beginning of a collection of narrative heavy paintings that depict a man with a box shaped head and his curiously creepy world. Plus, the titles to his works are amazing: “Superhuman Strength and Physical Proportions” or “Miraculous Resurrection of One Sort or Another.” The exhibition becomes a journey of childlike innocence interacting with nature. And, like all good journeys, there is a blog and nice little breadcrumbs in his esty shop. We’ll let you know when exhibition details are available.

Doctor Popular has many talents. Not only is he a blogger and a yo-yoist, but he can work denim on a sewing machine like nobody’s business. This last talent comes in handy when it comes to concocting crafty creations such as his Raw denim wallets and iPhone cases available in his DocPopEtsy shop. These suave casings serve are a welcome respite from your run-of-the-mill leather-made money holders and i-cessories. Your belongings will be safe, secure and snug as Doctor Popular demonstrates on his youtube video. Paging Doctor Sensible.
