Icelandic designer Sruli Recht has come up with an interesting solution for traveling fashion designers and students who have become frustrated with their lack of workspace while on the road. For Sruli, I imagine this idea was born out of pure necessity– Iceland is, after all, a pretty isolated place, so the ability to bring one’s work abroad is a must. The ‘Cutting Table No. 1′ – or as I have dubbed it, ‘Icelandic Fashion Designer’s Best Friend’ – is a collaboration between Sruli and FormFast, is made of cardboard, and is at once portable and sturdy. It comes with 3 collapsable drawers, jute strap moving/storing box, laminated white surface top, and all replaceable parts. It’s available at the Liborius boutique ($400 U.S.D); and rest assured, if you buy one, they’ll ship it to you (i.e. no trip to Iceland necessary).

While we surely never hesitate to fill you in on our favorite t-shirts, it isn’t everyday that we write about Turkish brands. Reha Erdogan is the designer behind the B Turk label, and both the designs themselves and the story behind the designs are worth your attention. Each design has independent cultural significance, and seeks to enhance Turkish values, symbols, and visual objects to today’s aesthetic values. To that end, the overall aesthetic of the line is a “reflection of the cosmopolitan culture that has survived through thousands of years, inheriting a multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-lingual structure.” The fashion movement is merely the first prong of the B Turk movement; they want to apply the same design aesthetic to an array of other areas of design in the future.

Vilderness prints on only sweatshop-free garments using water based inks with interesting illustrations of zebras, ducks, headphones, cactii and more. They also do print and web graphics–these t-shirts reflect their obvious design talent. They’re also working on some special one of a kind hand printed items. These look nice and cozy to me!
