Peanuts by phildesignart.jpeg

“Peanuts” is currently running on Threadless. It is a literal version of the famous Peanuts cartoon done with hand painted peanuts. I love this! Also be sure to check out the Argyle Crocodile and Bat Boy (shown below).

Hilarious: The Standard hotel in Miami had these great little replica’s of the famous Belgian bronze fountain sculptures– but this time they’re, well, in the spa.

While the micturating statue certainly imbues the spa with a sense of humor, it is more than just a tongue-in-cheek decoration.

The “Manneken Pis” — Dutch for “little man urinating” — is a replica of the famous Belgian bronze fountain sculpture, still a landmark in Brussels today. Made in 1388, legend has it that in the 14th century, Brussels was under siege by a foreign power. The city had held its ground for some time, so the attackers conceived of a plan to place explosive charges at the city walls. A little boy named Juliaanske happened to be spying on them as they were preparing. He urinated on the burning fuse and thus saved the city, for which a fountain was erected in his honor.

Another Ji Lee production!

The recent arrest of Roman Polanski for the rape of a 13 year old girl in 1977 has caused much debate around the world.

On one side, Polanski’s defenders argue he should be freed immediately because the case is too old. On the other side, Polanski’s non-sympathizers argue he should be tried just like any other sex offenders regardless of how old the case is.

What do you think? Cast your vote on POLLanski.com

regretsy.jpgMy friend Jessica, turned me on to a site that gives you a sneak peek into the crazy world of homemade crafts on Etsy. Regretsy is a newly launched blog that takes submissions for wacky, silly, and some downright disgusting wares as they appear on Etsy. I’ve browsed Etsy in the past looking for very specific items such as handprinted thank you cards or stuffed animals for my friend’s toddler but I never took the time to browse. If Regretsy is any indication, I am glad I didn’t. Each item is paired with some snarky commentary and while Helen Killer (who seems to be the one running the show), often missed the mark with her jokes, the description and images of the item for sale are often all that’s needed. There are some truly insane items, many featuring female genitalia. Like MySpace and Blogger, when you make it easy for anyone to make a site or sell a product, you really bring out the freaks. Add Regretsy to your newserader for some daily gems that will surely make the email rounds at your office. [And yes, I am entirely aware of the irony of linking to my friend's Etsy page].

My favorite non-profit tutoring center, 826LA, has just debuted the second round of its cheeky retro-future Time Travel posters done once again under the talented hand of local artist Amy Martin. If you recognize the look, that’s because you’ve seen them here last year, and they were such a success—$30,000 was made purely in poster sales—that the organization figured it might as well try its luck again. Witty with right-on messages, the 18″ x 24″ frame-ables help keep techno dreamers firmly planted in today’s reality. They’re only $19.99 plus shipping, and are available for pre-order with a ship date of Sept. 14. Way to go for thinking ahead of time!

Bay Area creative type Cindy Liu was feeling frustrated by a lack of likeable masks in preparing for a friend's masquerade birthday party last year when she decided to create her own. When asked to describe the lovingly humorous (and androgynous) hand embroidered face scarves she now markets as Archicraft at craft fairs and on Etsy , Liu says simply: “I love moustaches and wearing bandanas…it all naturally came together.” At less than $20 a pop, they make a good gift for facial hair-challenged and good humored friends looking for moustaches in black, brown and blonde against colorful bandanas.

We’re neck-deep in a vampire renaissance. First, there’s True Blood, the Alan Ball created series that imagines Bon Temps, Louisiana as a place where strange and supernatural creatures aren’t just a result of second cousins marrying. And then there’s Twilight — the impossibly popular teen fiction books that make being really pale and aloof look cool. Who will make sense of this creepy pop culture movement? Dan Bergstein from SparkNotes has created a chapter-by-chapter blog that’s distills Twilight (and now the sequel New Moon) down to its ridiculous essence. Vamp fans love it because Bergs eviscerates their stories with a loving hand. I love it because it’s just damn funny. If you’re in either camp you should be following this. If you have no idea what I’m talking about you’re probably a man over 40.

For all my college dropouts, graduates, post-graduates, and/or pals who didn’t go to University at all but want that collegiate looking t-shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie. Remember these? I Don’t Go To University: They’re back! Available in red, grey, and blue. Hat tip to the beautiful Greta Eagan for finding them! Now get back to work, you slackers.

The digital age has changed the ways in which we share our most important opinions and innermost secrets. The latter are usually reserved for our closest of acquaintances, but we don’t necessarily use the most personal approach to broach these delicate details. The combination of technology and weight of information has given us new rules for just how to break the news. Ji Lee’s 10 Levels of Intimacy in Today’s Communication is both an interesting and absurd display of the redefinition and possible redistribution of how we continue on with our most cherished connections.

My boyfriend surprised me on my birthday with these amazning little cupcakes. They were a huge hit so we decided to make a how-to page for everyone that always asks about them. By Kate Wienburg from Toronoto.

Campanhainstantanea: Enter in $5,000 for a budget at first, and click the different resulting components. Then do the same for a $5,000,000 budget. Awesome.

From the creators at Gringo:

You may be way above the little calamities of regular client work, but we were tired of having clients want to take control of their digital campaign, so we gave it to them! Let me know what you think!
