Normally, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Unless your mission is to hype the 10th anniversary of one of the hottest and fastest-growing film fests in the world. Then, it's all about getting the word out.

Just like Sin City where it all goes down, the CineVegas Film Festival is known for pushing our sensory limits. The filmmakers chosen are cinematic daredevils, and their equally dangerous flicks aren’t the kind you’d find on the slate at more conservative fests. Selecting entries is no easy task, but there are some heavy hitters working behind the scenes. With former Sundance Senior Programmer Trevor Groth as Artistic Director and famed actor Dennis Hopper as Chairman of the Creative Advisory Board, you know the festival is in good hands — whether they're rolling film or dice.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, CineVegas had alum directors create viral videos with the title “Ten Things I Know About Vegas.” Short pieces by Cam Archer, James Fotopolous, and Kevin Everson are already up on the CineVegas YouTube site, with more to be added during the run up to festival’s start on June 12th at the Palms Resort and Casino.

The guys behind the ever-enigmatic Los Angeles-based jeans brand Crate Denim are getting set to show off what’s to come for their Spring/Summer ‘08 Collection, and if past seasons are any indication of their plans for next year, then you denimheads out there best be getting excited. These are the same lads who are responsible for the appointment-only boutique Secret Service in L.A. that I wrote about a few months ago and that many of you were eager-beaver to experience. If you find yourself in Las Vegas on August 26-29, you should make every effort to forge through the desert heat over to the Platinum Hotel. In typical Crate Denim fashion, they don’t tell us much besides what’s on the flyer and this buried treasure-esque map, so if you have other questions, email them at info[at]cratedenim.com, and maybe they’ll get back to you. Fashion is a little more fun when you have to do some detective work to access it, don’t you think?

Las Vegas, the city of sin. A place generally known by the smell of exhaust fumes, sawdust and construction happening among dozens of casinos and complexes popping up every week. It’s the fastest growing city in the country, and it finally got a taste of eco-friendly development. Green Valley Lofts is the first “green” sustainable, mixed-use residential building in Las Vegas and the renderings look fabulous. Zero VOC non-toxic paints, natural cotton insulation, bamboo flooring, tankless water heaters, whole-house water filters, low wattage lighting and dozens of other “green” details we’ve come to expect. The building also has a heat-mirorr glass facade and photovoltaic systems across the entire roof– totally inspiring. JoshSpear.com friend Bryan Brey from Transform Real Estate recently started his own eco-friendly-only realty office and this is one of the properties they represent. It’s amazing to see someone put their foot down and invest in our future by only representing buildings like this that are sustainable and eco-conscious. I don’t foresee a Vegas move in my future, but put a building like this in my neighborhood and I’m in Bryan!
