Along with the calm quiet of living in the countryside, suburban life is often accompanied by perks such as a standard issue country club membership and golf courses as far as the eye can see. But what happens when the spawn of suburbia makes their way to the big city. Where will they go to engage in sport and spectacle in a city without rolling green hills that end in putting greens? Fear not, for the hottest urban sport for the fancy set doesn’t need no stinkin’ fairways. Table tennis is all the rage these days, and SpiN New York is about to be the hottest new social spot for the sport. The idea that sprung from Naked Ping Pong’s SOHO loft party is now a fully operational recreational sporting venue complete with a 9,000 square foot room with 15 state-of-the-art tables, locker rooms, a pro shop, not to mention a bar and lounge area for your relaxation needs. Everyone from the celebrity set to those who simply love to play are ponying up for memberships to this club with a ritzy Park Avenue address in NYC’s Flatiron District set to open later in June. While initially only accessible by members, the public will be able to get their ping pong on in virtually no time for a price.

Smiles are sure to abound for North American audiences of Playing for Change as the musical extravaganza goes on tour this week. The multimedia, artist-driven effort is working to promote peace and music education through collaboration and live performances of World music. San Franciscans can take in the tunes, including a rather irresistible rendition of “Stand By Me” at Slim’s today. Other upcoming shows include Seattle’s Showbox and New York’s High Line Ballroom. Should you miss the opportunity to see Grandpa Elliott, Mohammed Alidu, Jason Tamba of Afro Fiesta, and their counterparts performing together live for the first time, the film looks to be a promising second best (after showing at Tribeca, it won best song at the Roxbury Film Festival — no surprise there).

A brand new store opens in downtown Manhattan tonight featuring a set by 20 year-old style queen DJ Harley Newton. The transplant from L.A. is quickly gaining hype through her regular DJ night at LIT and her recent score as a model for DKNY’s next campaign. Based on the opening, we can expect lots more great nights at this fledgling venue. Don’t miss out on this first one though. And be sure to rock your freshest gear. RSVP at DDCLAB [at] factorypr.com

Even if you feel like you lost Indiana Jones forever that fateful day this summer when you wasted $10 on Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, you probably still long to participate in archaelogical adventures inspired by your favorite onscreen professor. Well, there’s still plenty of artifacts out there waiting to be found. Among them is your very own Indy hat, a necessity for anyone on their first or last crusade. Luckily, if you live in New York, San Francisco, L.A., or Chicago, you might just happen upon one of 800 fedoras. An anonymous group has planted them in random nooks and crannies of the four cities for anyone to pick up. Just think, you could be that close to becoming your own version of Indy and carrying on the tradition as you please. We should note these hats belong on your head and not in a museum.

We like to think that London and New York City were actually twin metropolitan cities separated at birth. One city went to live in England while the other was all the way across an ocean in America. Luckily, we've covered how to get between these two cities, but now a giant telescope allows you to leisurely look across the pond.

Paul St George, an artist, created a functional “Telectroscope,” a device based on an 18th century hoax. He told the press that invention works by using strategically placing mirrors in a large tunnel between New York (ending at the Brooklyn Bridge) and London (ending at Tower Bridge). Thus New Yorkers and Londoners can spy on each other. If you would like to keep the romance of a giant telescope peering between New York and London alive then don't click here to read the BBC article about how it really works.
