Murakami has a new body of work coming out this fall. The opening is next Saturday September 12th from 4 to 9pm at Galerie Perrotin in Paris. The exhibition will have 17 paintings as well as five sculptures and two films. Wild stuff– I wish I could make the opening.
This massive acrylic on canvas painting is called “Planet of Ecology: The Earth 2008-2009
A great interview with one of my favorite artists Jose Parla during the Stages art opening in Paris. Â Love him (and I’ve luckily got a few of his pieces).
New York and Paris have a lot to offer photographers — the buildings, the people … the puddles. That’s Robin Soulier’s viewpoint. Using the refection in puddles he photographs the city, putting cigarette butts, sewer caps and gross leaves against the architecture giants that roam NYC and Paris. It makes for some outstanding work, until some kid jumps in the puddle, splashing dirty city water all of Robin and his camera (not that wasn’t the first thing we thought about when we saw his work). Check out his photos (new ones just added) and you’ll never look at standing water the same.
Rugs are boring — unless you can find just the right one, then it really ties the room together. If your room happens to be contemporary high-end design then we can point you in the right direction: Chevalier Edition. They’re created by an impressive list of designers and all the rugs can be customized in both color and size. As you might guess they are a bit pricey. Pricey enough not to put prices on their website. Pricey enough to only be sold in Paris. But if you happen to be in Paris — say for a web development conference (cough cough Le Web) you should totally drop by and have a peak. For the rest of us we can have browse through their cover rug flow selection of really really attractive floor coverings.
After designing our iPhone/laptop case, Parra is announcing his latest art show of amazing design work in Paris. The Lazy Dog Gallery is putting up a collection of Parra’s work titled “Boo to the Hoo”, that’s ‘BooHoo’ to catch you up on street lingo. Not that Parra needs any additional street cred — his defining bright colors and typography have landed on sought after T-shirts, prints, skateboards, and cases for your gear. For an inside look at the creative factory of Parra, check out this video of him at home debating going into his office. The Lazy Dog Gallery opens Parra’s latest show on December 5th. Get your credit cards ready because it will sell out.
Fresh off returning from his traveling art exhibition in support of his Our Mountain book release, Steven Harrington (National Forest Design) has thrown more visual stimulation our way. With the help of his friends at Element Skateboards, Harrington gives us a sneak peak into the preparation that helped make his recent art tour a success. This brief clip shows a day in the life of Our Mountain as Harrington and company get ready for their opening at Paris’ Lazy Dog Gallery. It’s an interesting slice of life for those of us who have never been privy to the calm before the storm.
For the most part Steven Harrington (National Forest Design) sees the same world we see — except with an altered color scheme that rivals our wildest imaginations. His artwork comes from a place where peacocks meet rainbows, and a colony of the love children in teepees pay homage to the Easter Island statues. He invites us into his world with his new traveling art exhibition Our Mountain. The first show will be in Paris at the Lazy Dog Gallery. From there it will go on across Europe, spreading Steven's ideas of redecorating. Not European? (specifically not Parisian, Berliner — the people and doughnut — Barcelonista or Milanese. What? No Londoners? Come on guys!?!) then be sure to pick up their 180 page book coinciding with the event. But you still want to travel around Europe don't you? Head over to their blog and follow them around for a significantly lower fee.
