okimokApp1.jpgWith the immense popularity of photo sharing sites such as Flickr and Shutterfly, some might be inclined to say that they need another image sharing URL like they need a hole in their head. Well, once they’re introduced to the new iPhone-centric picture sharing application from Okimok.com, they might want to rethink that stance. This fresh spot for photo exchange allows users to instantly display their current state of being as captured on their pet electronic device and stream it to their friends via a superdeluxe slideshow. So whether you’re across the street or across the sea, you can remain visually apprised of the stunning picturesque whereabouts of your many significant others.

There is something great about a Polaroid image — they just scream old school. The colors are never quite right, the corners are often blurred, and they have that distinct border. Now that traditional Polaroid film is dead, it is going to be a lot tougher capture your memories with that flair. But don’t fret, Poladroid is a free application that turns your digital pictures into high-resolution Polaroid-style images, complete with the border. The results from this drag-and-drop application look amazingly realistic. For more examples, check out their Flickr group. This app is only available on a Mac right now, but the Windows version should be out in about a month.

The e-commerce experts at Alendis have been very busy figuring out ways to make your personal pictures go pop. They’ve got a trio of new sites that turn your very own images into pop art, making for ideal decorations while still going a long way towards preserving your precious memories. DecoraPhotos transfers a desired digital photo onto a variety of materials such as canvas or aluminum to hang in your home. NovaPop gives your snaps the Warhol treatment, turning them into a cartoonish rendering, and at NosoloPAPEL you can put those images onto an array of items such as invitations and notepads. All three ventures utilize the best modern printing materials, so you’re never stuck with something that resembles a color photocopy. As if those weren’t enough they have another new site by the name of Nuzart that seeks to redefine the a la carte buying and selling of art and also serve as a place where tremendous talent is shared. Told you they were busy.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what do you think a whole mess of pictures is worth? Well, sparing you the difficulties of applying basic math, we’ll tell you the answer may not be several pages of prose. Your pictures could, however, net you some pretty sweet prizes — that is if you should happen to embark on picturesque adventure from Photojojo, i.e Photo Safaris. These snap-happenings are occuring at locations in both San Francisco and New York over the next several weeks, and will feature displays of photographic fun shot by people just like you. The winners of each “Photo Safari” will receive rewards from Photojojo or their sponsors, which include the venerable folks at Gothamist and Adobe.
