Sneakers are an expensive hobby. The cheapest pair of premium kicks you’ll find are $80, if you can find them. Living in a town that only recently got a Quickstrike account, I know what it’s like to stay up ’til 4 in the morning to order a pair of shoes from the other side of the Atlantic. Niche markets benefit from niche sites and that’s exactly what SneakerListing is. Recently launched, the site acts as a free marketplace for collectors to buy and sell sneakers. With the ability to sort and search by brands, keyword, condition, size, and a other criteria, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. As with any new service, it’s success really depends on how many people participate. It’s a Catch 22, because I feel like many people won’t start listing or buying until they see that others have done so successfully. Also, unlike eBay (partnered with Paypal) there are really no repercussions for fraud. Hopefully the pros of having a dedicated marketplace with informed buyers and sellers outweighs the cons.

Everyone wants a piece of Tavis Coburn. Clients like Nike, Time Magazine, the NFL, Discovery Channel, and GQ, amongst others have coughed up the big bucks for the privilege of having this Toronto-based master draftsman create authentic images for their campaigns. Now, we know you’re no mega-global corporate behemoth, but one look at Coburn's remarkably retro 1940's- and 50's-inspired renderings will have you wishing your last name was “Starbucks” so you might have the cash to commission a coveted canvas all your own.We, however, have some great news for you…you don't have that kind of loot lying around in order to get your hands on some of these astonishing images. All you have to do is head to Tavis Coburn's online shop and purchase a print that suits your fancy, regardless of whether or not you're the type who has fancy suits to wear.

It’s a shoe-in; the gang over at Keep Company are having a massive 60% off sale starting Friday through Sunday of selected shoe styles on their site (and if you live in L.A., the sale’s Friday in the store). Your gal pals probably already have the inside track on them because they were originally incepted as a brand for girls only, but their kicks have since gotten so hot they’re now offering dude’s sizes in various models. Keep uses unusual, beautiful prints, colorways and fabric like plaid, herringbone and even woven Mayan fabric to give their sneakers and slip-ons a classic feel and style. Here’s your chance to cop their gorgeous styles on the cheap.

Little Friends of Printmaking, the husband-and-wife silkscreening team based in Milwaukee, have been making poster art since 2003. Their name should ring bells for you, as their work is well known, well loved, and has been published in several recent, well distributed books. Their name certainly rang bells for me, so when I saw that a reader had suggested we check them out, my first reaction was, “Silly, we already did!” However, after sifting through the site, I found that, yes, Little Friends of Printmaking had been mentioned, but deep within other posts, and never in a post of their own. In other words, it’s about time for us to formally introduce you to the slightly irreverent, considerably talented pair, and we can’t think of a much better way to do so than to A) Tell you that they’re awesome; and B) Point you to the Winter Cavalcade of Awesome, a poster sale currently happening at Little Friends of Printmaking’s online store. If you’re the sort of customer who is concerned about the paper stock on which said posters are printed, you’ll have to send them an email (because I don’t know the answer), but if you are solely concerned about the visual success of said posters, I think you’ll be one happy camper.

Summer is counting down its last days, which generally means a mad scramble to pack the weekends with activities you haven't quite gotten around to yet. If these activities are the type that requires a fashion statement — like hitting the race track or a little jaunt to the “country” — you'll be happy to know that Groupe 16sur20 is having a giant sale. Located in New York's Nolita and an offshoot of the custom high-end Seize sur Vingt, Groupe 16sur20 conceptualizes, designs, produces and wholesales some seriously posh ready-to-wear lines for both men and women. Twill pants, strategically deconstructed shoes that “will hold up to an especially rough game of pétanque,†and seersucker suits are just a few of the items that will be discounted; you can take a peek on the store’s blog. All are perfect for some high class summer fun or, perhaps, just sitting in the sun sipping mint julep and spouting Mark Twain quotes. Ahem (brow blot with linen hankie), “Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it,” if you’re into that sort of thing…although, we’re sure they’ll look great on you while you’re sitting in your office, kicking yourself that the only worthwile thing you did this summer was hit up this sale, too.

Break out the plastic, ’cause Anonymous Apparel is having a sale. We’ve told you about these guys before before; once when they opened for business, and again when they created a truly spot-on (get it?) shirt in support of the National Wildlife Federation. Now we’re telling you about them because they’re launching a new website, one that includes a blog, wholesaler access (for all you wholesalers out there), new items and — most importantly — 15% off all items on the site.
In their newly-juiced corner of the web, you’ll find T-shirts for men and women as well as jewelry and accessories. Some of the shirts are really sweet and some are slightly less so but I am, however, willing to stipulate that the shirts you like might very well be different from the shirts that I like, since that seems to be the way that taste in clothing works. That being said, I’m also willing to bet that you will find something here to like, and like hard — certainly hard enough to buy at 15% off.

All-around lifestyle site Lifelounge launched a new charity project recently called the 22 Flavours project. They’ve invited 22 hot/new/swanky/sweet artists and designers each to design a t-shirt based on a flavor: cotton candy, banana split, strawberries & cream, etc. Each design will be printed on 22 t-shirts and sold for 22 days on the Lifelounge website, and all of the proceeds will benefit a charity to feed the homeless called Street Smart Australia.
The shop isn’t up and running yet, but keep an eye on it; it looks like about a third of the designs have been posted so far, with more coming in every couple of days. This is your chance to own a limited edition tee by some of the hottest artists from around the world — not to mention that you’d be helping out a good cause. My mouth’s already watering for the “Orange Fizz” flavor. You can bet that you’ll have to duke it out with me to get your hands on one of those!

Spear Collective member and local hero Jason Thielke has a solo show coming up this Friday in Denver, so if you find yourself with some downtime in between work and your Friday night romp, head over to Birds @ The 400, where Jason will be selling 400 new works…for $50 dollars each.
That’s right — $50 bucks for a little slice of Thielke. Actually, it’s not really a little slice; all the pieces I’ve seen so far are pretty generously sized. And for those of you unfamiliar with this sort of show, you’ve gotta be there to call dibs. That means, the sooner you get there, the more likely you’ll wind up with a whole wall’s worth of paintings for under $200. Things officially run from 6-10pm, but be aware that the last time I attended a show like this, the best stuff was snatched up after barely 20 minutes (read: plan your entrance with care, because the hawks will be out).

There’s that annoying stereotype that we Asians have a passion for math and science, but here’s one thing I can whole-heartedly back up: we dress on the cutting edge. My bio photo, by the way, caught the only instance EVER in which this didn’t apply. Hong Kong and South Korea have been getting props for their emerging designers, and is there anyone who can look at me in the eye and tell me they haven’t ever panted over the stuff in Japanese fashion mags?
Let me get to the point: Online Asian retailer YesStyle.com is having a massive sale of up to 70% off on men’s and women’s clothes, shoes and bags, beauty products and other accessories until August 31. There’s frickin’ free express international shipping for orders over $99 as part of the promotion! And the fun doesn’t stop there…the site’s in English with products listed in actual U.S. currency! Prices, even for non-sale items, are already a deal, so this sale is making things sweeter. I’m going to have to put aside my calculus studies for an hour or so to do me some shopping.

My older sister is leaving Seattle. This is a tragedy for three reasons; 1) As far as places to visit go, Seattle is far superior to Sand Point, Idaho; 2) After she is gone, my reasons to go to Seattle will have dwindled to 33% of what they used to be (my darling emo cousin just ran away, potentially to Canada, though no one knows for sure. Actually, if anyone happens to see a very blond, very tiny, very intellectually superior sixteen year-old galloping about unattended, please mention her whereabouts/condition in the comment section); and 3) I foresee difficulty in convincing my only remaining Seattle relative, a rather soft-spoken pastor, to shop in my absence at Velocity, the incredible art and design store that is now holding an amazingly delicious moving sale. Because they are relocating to South Lake Union, everything at the current Belltown location is going for a nice 10-70% off. That includes art and furniture by some of our favorite new and old designers like Angela Adams, Area, Dwell, Molo, Blik, Offi, Thomas Paul, Jason Miller, Jefdesigns, George Nelson, Ray and Charles Eames, Jean Prouve, Sori Yanagi, Isamu Noguchi, Verner Panton, Architectural Pottery, and, yeah…holy crap, right?
The sale is running through August 18th, but I recommend running on over as fast as your feet will carry you; you know those Seattle-ites and their design obsessions…
