Sorry for the radio silence the past week, I’ve been going, going, going! I’ve had a speech in Malta, a quick trip to Morocco where I reviewed some incredible hotels, and now I’m back in London for a week. Although it’s been nice to unplug, I’m buried in email and interesting things to share from my trips. More soon! Thanks for your patience and support.

I love longboarding around NYC– even though it scares the bajesus out of me after seeing a few close calls. Great video on the craft and culture in NYC.

It’s been four years since charity: water started with the crazy idea that everybody on the planet should have clean water to drink. Since then and thanks to everyone who has donated, they’ve helped over 1 million people in 17 countries. Pretty awesome right? This September though they’re going even bigger, and they need our help. If you read this site, you know how much I care about this issue! Go watch the incredible video and get your campaigns started.

Update: We did it, and in less than 24 hours.  THANK YOU!

Friends, family, complete strangers,

It’s my 26th birthday on the 26th, and if you knew me when I was 25, you know just what I wanted… and with your help, I got it.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to travel through rural Tanzania. While I was there, I was able to witness firsthand the difference clean drinking water can make for a community.

I took the pictures below. People used to wade into this disgusting swamp to get their water several times throughout the day, or lower buckets into the muddy mess.  It’s unreal.

We’ve all heard about it non-stop, but I needed to see it with my own two eyes. It’s unexplainable and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to keep helping.

Last year we built one well together, this year let’s go for two. That will serve 500 people clean drinking water.

And this time I will personally match every donation up to $5,000.

Ready? Set? Let’s go.

Happy birthday to me,

Josh

Graffiti Analysis 2.0: Digital Blackbook from Evan Roth on Vimeo.

This Graffiti Analysis project is wildly impressive.  Via QBN

Graffiti Analysis is an extensive ongoing study in the motion of graffiti. Custom software designed for graffiti writers creates visualizations of the often unseen motion involved in the creation of a tag. Motion data is recorded, analyzed and archived in a free and open database, where writers can share analytical representations of their hand styles

If you’re in London on May 1st I highly encourage (if you’re a friend of mine I demand) you go see the Playground film by my friend Libby Spears (no, not related to me). It’s an incredibly sobering look into the child sex trade in America.  I’m a huge supporter of Libby and her Nest Foundation.

For more information about the film and foundation checkout the website.

“I wish for your help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”

Pitch in and learn how you can help here. I’m sure the video will be up soon, Jamie was fantastic.

world-economic-forum-2009.jpeg

I’m off first thing tomorrow morning for a few days in London before I head on to Davos. This year is the 40th year the World Economic Forum has been convening world leaders and interesting people under one very snowy Swiss roof. It will be my third time to the event, and so far the past two have been drastically different from one another. They continue to be inspiring and stimulating though, and have provided both a good reception for my speaking engagements in the past (I’m speaking again this year), and fertile ground to explore new areas of interest I have.

As some of you know, last year I was nominated into a special group within the Forum called the Forum of Young Global Leaders. It has been an absolutely amazing experience (with meetings so far in Jordan, China and Dubai) and has given me an incredible opportunity to begin meeting other young worldly thinkers trying to make a difference in the world.

One such project we have been working on together just launched today, and I’m pleased to be able to share it with all of you. It’s called Redesign Our World. Essentially, it’s a place to show off many of the incredible initiatives YGL’s have been dreaming up and working on, and solicit new ideas from people around the globe.

With the help of some friends, we managed to get a site up in time for Davos so the internal Davos community and world at large could see, comment and engage with what we’re working on. I hope you’ll take a look and leave a comment or endorsement if you see something you like.

As usual I’ll do my best to blog throughout my travels– but following me on Twitter is usually a better way to see what I’m up to, hearing, seeing and thinking.

Thanks for reading…

Picture from the Boston: Six Days Later piece that floated around the web earlier today.

It’s hard to sit by and watch what’s happening in Haiti. My father (who has dealt with his fair share of disasters) wrote a piece for the Huffington Post early that sums up a lot of what we’ve been thinking and discussing together. Give it a read if you’re interested: Overcoming Trauma in Haiti: Reflections of a Seasoned Disaster Specialist.

Going dark for a few days, and here's why:.jpeg

Everyone needs a little vacation from their inbox and the day to day, right? I’ll be tweeting every now and then– if I have anything remotely interesting to share from the beach. Be back to you soon!

Approximately 27,000,000 people are currently enslaved today. Call it human trafficking, call it forced labor, it’s slavery. More people working against their will right now than ever before in history. What are you willing to do to help stop it? More thoughts here.
