Wired has a wonderful article about the prospect of every kid having a computer; and MIT’s Media Lab’s plan for a $100 laptop. They say the goal is closer than many might think–MIT is working with AMD, Google, and News Corp to have a computer ready by the end of 2006. “Students will be able to access thousands of textbooks electronically and learn how to program, one of the best ways to “learn how to learn,” according to my MIT colleagues Seymour Papert and Mitch Resnick” They mention there are some 1.8 billion children worldwide and the $100 laptop we propose would be available only in orders of 1 million units.
