NPR has a nice article and audio story about the way companies archive their old products in order to learn from past mistakes. The story highlights Nike, who even has a corporate archivist who spends her time organizing and collecting some 23,000+ pieces of sports memorabilia, and 143 pairs of shoes from the 70’s and 80’s. Many of the sneakers were purchased recently from a Japanese collector to help fill in gaps in the archive. Nike is still missing around 50 models, no telling what they’ll pay for them but the list is available here: Nike Archive Shoe Wish List. I bet serious sneaker collectors have a lot of these in their own personal archives, I wish I did!

Issue 4 was hot, and finally about a year later Faesthetic Magazine’s 5th anniversary issue is ready for purchase. This issues is 174 pages of original black and white art, photography, graffiti and design. As with all the other issues in the past, only 1000 copies are made and each issue comes with some special surprises. Some artists in this issue include Shepard Fairey, Mars-1, and Fumi Nakamura.

Rob Teeters’ calls his skull coasters “L’Ingestion de Poison”, he’s poking some fun at drinking alcohol as a “social obligation.” Laser-cut into the bottom of each case is the French saying “L’ingestion de poison peut-etre fatale” which translates to “the ingestion of poison may lead to death.” Teeters (site coming soon) is a young and provocative Brooklyn based artist whose work is available Future Perfect in Willamsburg.
