Dialog05 explores the differences between the analog and digital worlds with their latest project Universal Connectors. A team of industrial designers created a series of consumer products all using USB, as symbol for lifes ‘universal connections’. They say given the current, often exotic uses of USB it would even be argued that there is a ‘USB subculture’– their products are amusing, interesting and thought provoking. Some of my favorites include the ‘datenschutz’ (left), “no access for unauthorized persons” and ‘eternal love’ (right), “It’s all about give and take – synchronize!”– be sure check them all out, they’re great. Chronos Chromos Concrete is a new type of system that allows you to dynamically display patterns, numbers and text in the surface of a concrete slab. This project appears to have come out of the Royal College of Art in London by Chris Glaister, Afshin Mehin and Tomas Rosen. They say it’s suitable for indoor and outdoor applications with a the ability to make color changes in 5 seconds. Make sure to check out the video to see it in action!

Back when my budget, and height, was a little bit smaller, there was no other watch brand more desirable than Swatch. My love for their designs has only increased over the years, especially with the Bijoux Collection, a plethora of jewelry featuring opalescent colors and contrasting materials sure to please–no matter your individual sense of style. Highlights from the collection include the Feel the Beat pendant and ring that look like a turntable and radio face, respectively, as well as the Moon Illusion, a stylized, cream, ceramic lotus flower with crystal, available as a pendant or ring. If you’re on a bit of a budget, check them out.n
