For those who don’t know of him, Dave Kinsey is a kind of a big deal, and his latest exhibition at the Art Prostitute Gallery in Dallas, TX is by association also a pretty big deal. It’s Dave’s first solo stateside show in years, and he didn’t hesitate to pull out all the stops with this one. He created an impressive installation in the gallery and produced a number of paintings and drawings, all of which are for sale. This is truly a rare opportunity to own some original art created by an artist/designer who will no doubt go down in history as one of the greats of our time. Go to Art Prostitute’s website to check out pictures of the works and gallery. More of Dave’s work can be viewed at his personal website KinseyVisual.com, and those interested in his commercial endeavors as founder of creative agency BLK/MRKT (clients include Mountain Dew, Adidas, Honda, Sony, and Levi’s to name just a few) can go to BlkMrkt.com. This guy is seriously hot right now.

Right now in Java there is still an enormous lack of awareness about the tragic earthquake that struck the region more than two weeks ago, leaving 600,000 people without homes or any supplies. I’d like to interrupt our normal posting schedule to ask for your support. While most of us have the luxury of choosing which restaurant to eat at, and which gift to buy our father this holiday, thousands of people are suffering in a remote region of central Indonesia in the shadow of Mt. Merapi, one of the worlds most active and therefore dangerous volcanoes. While many of us cannot leave our daily routine to help families and children rebuild their lives, I know of one group very close to me that is preparing to go there and will make a big difference as they did in Sri Lanka following the Tsunami last year. The group has organized a team of children’s trauma care specialists (my father is one of them) but they are still severely underfunded.
Please take a moment to read their journals from Sri Lanka or the current situation in Java. Even if you don’t have time to read them, if each of my readers donated half of what they would spend on a new pair of sneakers each week it would be an enormous help. Thanks in advance for your support!
I’m aiming to raise $10,000 for them. You can donate via paypal, please send money to java [at] fortunateblessings.org, to the address listed on their website, or by clicking below.

When you're young, your Dad always seems to know it all. Then, as you grow older, and so does your Dad, you hope maybe you've surpassed him in the knowledge department, but to no avail! Since it is hopeless, why not help further his seemingly infinite capacity for knowledge by giving him the book, The Last Man Who Knew Everything. The subtitle – Thomas Young, the Anonymous Polymath Who Proved Newton Wrong, Explained How We See, Cured the Sick, and Deciphered the Rosetta Stone, Among Other Feats of Genius, by Andrew Robinson, explains everything about the man who disproved the great Isaac Newton's theory of light. Young's wrote 63 articles for the Encyclopedia Britannica all successfully illustrated in Robinson's book. With genius in so many fields, Young is sure to impress even the most knowledgeable of Dad's!

The Fuego 01 is the epitome of Father's Day gifts for the Dad who loves to grill, which I guess is pretty much all Dad's. Designed by former head of industrial design at Apple, and now Pentagram partner, the Fuego 01 has been crafted to meet every aspect of today's griller with convenience and style. The Quick-Change Drawer System allows you to change the heat source from coal to infrared, to gas by simply replacing the side drawer. Covered with shining Stainless steel, a counter top flanked with beautiful teak wood, and all the custom cooking electronics you could imagine, this grill is truly a piece of art and although it may not make it into MOMA's permanent collection, like many of Brunner's other designs, it will definitely be the centerpiece of your Dad's backyard! A barbecue designed by a former industrial designer for Apple? Our top pick for sure!

Denmark-based design brand Stelton has been producing innovative and functionally-designed products for over 40 years. The company was originally created with the purpose of producing stainless steel hollowware for use at the dinner table. Stelton’s big break came when in 1967 when it partnered with Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen to create a line of harmoniously designed tableware dubbed the Cylinda Line, which is now legendary in the design community. Today, Stelton’s newest line is called i:cons, which is targeted at relaxed and style-conscious people on the go who need and appreciate functional products. Items in the i:cons line currently include an ID card holder, cigarette case, luggage tag, business card holder, and money clip. All the items are constructed out of a warm gray colored fiberglass that contrasts nicely with the stainless steel for a modern look. Most of the i:cons line can be found at UnicaHome.com.
