It’s Art Dammit is the very-colorful design portfolio of Sydney, Australia based designer Jeremy Somers. His main focus is photography and illustration, which he spreads across several print and web projects. His work feels a little bit like a cross between our friends Chuck Anderson and Scott Hansen– but with its own unique twist. His work has been featured in Start Mobile, Flavorpill, Emblem Mag and more. When he isn’t playing the graphic design game, he’s applying his talents to his newest project, a t-shirt label called People Like Us Collective. Nice work!

158521961 B211Fc0B8EDavid Vo was born and raised in Monterey Park, CA, a city renowned for its incredible Chinese food, which certainly has left him spoiled and planted the seed for his culinary interests. In 1999 he moved 112 miles north to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara. Interning at a local technology startup fed his hunger for fast paced environments and innovation. His addictive personality is never satisfied until he has exhausted all information about a particular “flavor of the week” hobby. The ones that have stuck around include the following varied interests: hiking, geocaching, watches, audio, biking, and sneakers. Seven years later, he is fortunate to still be living in this American Riviera. When he isn’t writing about his interesting finds for our site, he is updating his personal blog. Welcome aboard David!

Stussy-Zoomer-1
Anyone who knows me knows the Honda Zoomer is likely the only scooter I’d ever ride. I covered the oki-ni edition back in February of ‘05, 15 units were made in Plasma yellow, black and a classic camo green. The latest in the Zoomer craze is the Stussy edition– made by Ben Wilson Design, Studio Oscar, Stussy UK and of course Honda. The bikes (limited to only 10) all come with limited edition MA-1 jackets and a numbered laser-etched Stussy Zoomer Skateboard. There is an American version of the bike called The Ruckus, but it’s simply not as good looking as the UK counterpart.

After our fascination over Air Guitar Nation and in the spirit of competition, we couldn't help but stare in amazement at the film, Unflinching Triumph –The Philip Rockhammer Story. Since it's founding in 1997 the NASP (National Association of Staredown Professionals) has strived for recognition and with the upcoming release of Rockhammer's story, hope to give nationwide exposure to the sport which requires "focus, concentration, and endurance." The documentary immerses the audience into Philips life, from his breakout success, to his tense showdowns with Staredown legend Tony Patterson, and follows him from start to finish in his journey to become the 2005 NASP National Champion. It seems that all those hours of watching television have indeed made us Americans some of the most elite athletes in the world, "See you at the toe line!"

McdripFrench graffiti legend Zevs has been everywhere lately including here at JoshSpear.com, with his installation / performance in Paris to his collaboration with Mekanism skateboards. But now, using the streets of Paris as his canvas, Zevs is sending his message in a slightly different way – using large corporation's presence in our daily environment against them. "Public space is becoming more and more privatized by companies that have only one goal: to make the most money possible no matter what are the consequences." Our friend The Columnist, met with Zevs somewhere on the streets of Paris to conduct an intervention between customers and the company which pumps them full of nitrates, McDonalds. Using road paint (which is pretty much impossible to remove) Zevs brandishes the Golden arches with yellow paint giving them the impression of dripping and leakage, a visual metaphor of what fast food can do to our bodies. While we don't promote vandalism, we must applaud Zevs in his attempt to confront large corporations using art. Thanks Fred!
