For those to whom the gentrification of Glastonbury and Reading Festivals cant come quickly enough, Travelodge’s Travelpod will be very welcome. Measuring 20ft by 8.5ft, it features carpets, a double bed and most importantly, an ensuite toilet and wash basin, and it’s coming to a festival near you on the back of a lorry, for just £26 a night. Keep an eye out for trial runs this summer, and a full launch next year.

SlingboxoneIt was inevitable, I suppose. A gadget that lets you watch and control your local programming (even Tivo preferences) from your cube, a Hawaiian condo or a wifi cafe in Azerbaijan. With “place shifting” technology, Slingmedias' Slingbox redirects your home TV signal from an antenna or cablebox to your laptop. Just attach the chocolate-bar-like hardware to your TV at home and download the software on your PC. Don't expect rocking resolution from streaming video just yet, but it won't be long. A couple hundred bucks will set you up with a Slingbox (I'm quite fond of the word.) Just remember, TV is a master at the art of time-suckage. . .sometimes it’s good to escape from the idiot box, so I stress: everything in moderation.

We think this piece, although older, is still timeless. French designer and former head of furniture design for Philippe Starck, Patrick Jouin has pushed boundaries in furniture design, often taking inspiration from nature by creating organic shapes in his collections such as his 2004 work Solids. His Audiolab, although originally conceived in 2001 and commissioned in 2003 by the Museum of Modern Art is boasts a similar organic feel. This media “pod” is a module designed to allow museum visitors to discover and listen to the work of sound artist. Audiolab provides a comfortable alcove for listeners to immerse themselves in sound and at approximately 33 feet in size, allows ample room for up to 4 visitors to stretch out and relax. The lab has been presented in Beaubourg, Marseille, Berlin, Barcelona, and Copenhagen. Although an older part of Jouin's designs, the Audio Lab is still noteworthy and leaves us asking, “Will the US ever get a taste of this sense-stimulating, museum loungers dream?”
