After losing both parents to cancer, Ben Goldhirsh used the money left behind by his father (founder of Inc. Magazine), and started Reason Pictures. In December 2004, he and his friends came up with the idea of a magazine with features on content that is not only relevant and interesting but also matters. Good Magazine’s annual subscription (6 issues) is only $20 and while that is not unusual, where that money goes is. When you subscribe online, you get to choose from 12 non-profits which range from Creative Commons to the World Wildlife Federation. One hundred percent of the subscription fee goes directly to the cause of your choosing. Launching this month, the team at Good Magazine is throwing two bashes, one in Los Angeles (9/16) and another in New York (9/21). The LA party is tonight and will feature musical acts DJ Valida, Deadly Syndrome, and Big Sam’s Funky Nation. You have until 5 PM PST to subscribe and RSVP.
