We’re sick of Diddy, too. (Is that even his name right now?) His most recent marketing attempt at being in touch with emerging technology really made us nauseous. Long story short, he teamed up with Burger King to launch what he’s calling ‘Diddy TV‘ on YouTube– claiming he ‘bought a channel’. Little did he know how un-authentic it would look– buying his way to the front page vs. building something viral (and free). We wouldn’t normally post a rant like this, but we found a response to his video which was too good not to spread around. Big high five to Lisa Nova for taking matters into her own hands and creating a downright hilarious response to the mega pop star. As we post this, her video has been viewed 74,428 times– not bad for never buying a ‘channel on YouTube’. Make sure to watch the Diddy piece first.

The original ‘Diddy TV’ video is on the left, the response by a young Lisa Nova is on the right. Enjoy.

Not that kind of pearl necklace, pervert. While I am everything short of irate about the puka shell necklace fad that has held certain people hostage for the past ten years (you know who you are), I do think it is possible (as do many highly-regarded designers) for a man to accessorize with a necklace without looking goofy. Enter Angela Carol’s Tahitian Pearl Necklace. Simple, yet striking, the necklace is based around a high quality black Tahitian pearl, deep in color with subtle peacock overtones. The large, robust pearl (11-12 mm in size) is anchored by a leather cord and a 14k gold clasp. Angela Carol’s website boasts a price of $355, down from a retail price of $1775 (not quite sure how that works), but the Tahitian Pearl Necklace is their best selling piece.

EdocLast spring we covered edoc laundry–they were then an up and coming indie apparel company based out of Seattle. Well, now they are taking off, and are about to get some major press on a major TV network. They originally impressed us with their creative platform–to embed hidden messages and codes within their garments to reveal secrets once the codes are deciphered. I guess the producers of CSI New York also liked the idea; so much so that edoc t-shirts are going to play a major role in the story line of the October 11 episode of CSI NY entitled, ironically as to edoc, ‘Hung Out to Dry.’ The word is that the episode is about a serial murderer who uses trendy (edoc) t-shirts to hide clues to his identity and motives for his gruesome killings. Edoc specially designed 4 shirts for the show, and they are available as limited edition t’s on edoc’s website. While I am not a huge fan of CSI NY, I may have to check out Wednesday’s episode to see how they work edoc’s shirts into the mix.

We are still a couple of years away from electric cars totally catching on, but the Tesla Roadster is giving us something to look forward to. The folks at Tesla have shifted their focus beyond the gas-electric hybrid platform that we have seen in recent years, an have gone all out by designing a fully electric sports car. The Roadster will whisk from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds, is as quiet as a whisper (the motor only has one moving part!), and fully charges its batteries in 3.5 hours. The thing is fast, that’s for sure–I saw it road-tested on the Today Show this morning and it was pretty impressive to watch. The design is top-notch as well–especially the interior. The only thing that bothers me about the car — and this is definitely a catch 22 — is that it IS quiet. To me, there is something very special about the roar of a V-12 gas motor. The quietness of the Tesla Roadster is kind of emasculating, don’t you think? That said, I don’t want to judge the quiet ride until I have the chance to get into one and experience the ‘quiet flight’ myself. Tesla will be shipping its pre-orders in about a year, at the cost of about $120,000 (this is what I remember hearing, but if anyone knows this price figure to be false, let me know). I have to give props to Tesla for what it is doing–it designed a fast sports car that produces 1/10 of the pollution and is 6 times as efficient as top sports cars–the quiet ride notwithstanding.

We were lucky enough to grab a few minutes to catch up with our friend and indie rock song writing genius Ben Kweller last week after his show here in Boulder, CO, at the Fox Theater. His new self titled album is in stores and on iTunes now. Ben was soft spoken, introspective and completely rocked the stage. You asked the questions, we got the answers. We spoke about fatherhood, show-ending bloody noses, Bob Dylan’s Genius, composing music, and all things Kweller. We think you’ll enjoy our interview with him below! Make sure to click ‘Read More’ to see the whole interview.

Josh Spear: A little birdie told us you had a child, first congratulations on becoming a father! What’s it like? And, in what way do you want the world to be different as he grows up and is say, 10? If you could make that change happen, what would it be?

Ben Kweller: You know really, that’s a hard thing– I just hope when he’s 10 that wherever we’re living, we’ll be in a neighborhood where he can ride his bike and be out all day and come home when it gets dark and I don’t have to worry about him, and go and climb trees and play Rambo or whatever or GI Joe like out in the woods you know with his buddies without me worrying about his safety because that’s what I used to do all the time in the summer time. I mean I used to go out and wouldn’t come back until it got dark, I knew to come back but my parents didn’t have to worry about me and I feel like more and more now parents are so worried about their kids it’s just kind of sad that you can’t let your kids go out. So I hope he’ll be able to do that…
