Vaja Cases, the leading designer and manufacturer of some of the most high-end consumer oriented iPod and cell-phone cases just launched their first shot at a bag– and we’re pleased with the initial press photos. The bag, simply called ‘The Vaja Leather Messenger Bag’ is made from carefully selected Argentinean leather hide– completely hand crafted. The bag features a detachable gadget pocket, key hook, and lightweight padded notebook jacket– available in 15″ wide and 15″ slim, the slim a perfect size for our Macbook Pro! We think it’s a great and natural step forward for an already superb company, congrats guys!

The Commune — the design collective started by New Zealander Jeremy Bennett in 2002, has has just released a ‘New Range’ of limited edition t-shirts (as we promised when we covered the Commune a few months ago). The demand for these shirts was robust (to say the least) from the get-go, due to a last minute order from their new German stockist, there is a very limited amount of t-shirts available to purchase at this point. In their words: ‘New Range. Goody Goody. New Range. Hot Damn. Limited Stock. Uh Oh.’ As you all probably know by now, we at JoshSpear.com love to see great design sprout from the ‘collective’ model–the diverse group of designers at The Commune share the exposure, and share the profits. Now their t-shirts are so popular that they may have to ramp up production–not a bad position to be in.

My German is (still) rusty, but that doesn’t stop me from totally admiring Markus Hofer’s unique and borderline genius work. Due to the language barrier (any German readers want to offer a translation of his about page?), I can’t tell you much about him. Simply put, his art, like the spray can sculpture above, makes us look at the world with an entirely different perception. Check out his portfolio, it’s great.

We’re loving these artist-edition Playsam cars, created for the Fitzsu Society, a Los Angeles based modern accessories store. Thirty-three international designers created one-of-a-kind cars using the original Playsam Streamliner car (we wrote about last August). They invited artists from all disciplines to interpret the car– the results were fantastic, like Industrial designer Karim Rashid’s blob form shown here on the left and street artist Dalek’s melted wax car on the right. Other favorite cards include Yves Behar, Ben Grider, and James Irvine. All cars are availble on eBay and proceeds benefit the World Childhood Foundation– check these out!

Eva Harlou is a Copenhagen, Denmark based architect who has some serious talent. She designs small and large scale buildings for both commercial and residential application, and is proficient with both interior and exterior design. Since graduating from the Aarhus School of Architecture in 2003, Eva was a design competition managing architect for 3XN (a renowned Danish architecture firm), and was a teacher at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. While I am not an architecture guru by any means, Eva’s designs strike me as modern and clean, yet easy on the eyes–what you would expect from a talented young Danish architect I guess. I’m definitely going to track Eva’s progress in the architecture field in the years to come.
