Our friend Scott Rench, aka Yosoh, the ‘computers and clay‘ dude, also happens to be an insanely talented art director and all around advertising creative guy. Unfortunately, some knuckle-heads at an agency that will go unnamed laid him off last week when they lost a handful of accounts. I told him not to worry, I’d find him a job, this is JoshSpear.com afterall. His advertising portfolio is available online. The bad-ass creative he did for Sony Noise Canceling Headphones should land him a coosh job all on their own, but there is a lot of top notch work in there — I’m a fan, very nice work! Good luck Scott…

If you haven’t heard Grizzly Bear, trust the guys in this year’s indie rock sensation TV on the Radio that this band has some real talent– they did, after all, invite fellow Brooklynites Grizzy Bear to join them as an opening act on their Fall tour. If I had to pin Grizzly Bear into a genre, it would probably be experimental folk rock. They are the type of band I would listen to on a chill Sunday afternoon, after partying hard for the previous two nights. For that type of distant and spaced-out mood, I recommend drawing yourself a nice hot bubble bath and listening to ‘Lullabye’ and ‘Colorado,’ off their September-released album ‘Yellow House.’ You will surely emerge from that bathtub more confused than when you got in it, but with a smile on your face.

A few weeks ago Mimoco announced the kick-off to their Star Wars series mimobots with Darth Vader, an instant classic. Our wish was granted with the second addition, the chewbacca-bot, we could have sworn the third was going to be obe-wan, but we’re just as pleased with the announcement (you heard it here first) of the Storm Trooper-bots. As usual each are available in 1GB, 2GB and 4GB sizes and are done in limited edition of run of 2,500. Each bot comes with tons of exclusive content, be sure to pre-order yours now!

For all of you who plan to shoot your own turkey for Thanksgiving this year, you best order some buckshot from Season Shot. These shotgun shells not only allow you to shoot-dead that hapless gobbler, but they are environmentally friendly (the shot — little bb’s — are biodegradable), and most importantly– the bb’s season your bird on impact. With flavors like cajun, lemon pepper, garlic, teriyaki, and honey mustard, how can you go wrong? I know what you are thinking– ‘this must be a joke.’ But let me assure you, this is the real deal. Reportedly, advertising sharp shooter GSD&M is pitching Season Shot at this very moment (now that was a joke). And for all of you cannibals out there– don’t even think about it.

TIME Magazine just released their picks for the Best Inventions of 2006. YouTube makes it to the top of the list (although technically I think they were founded in 2005), as well as the super-sexy, eco-friendly Tesla Roadster, the flesh sensing table saw, floating beds and the HugShirt– a shirt that stimulates the feeling of being embraced by a loved one. Go go gadget, to infinity and beyond!

NauNau is almost here (god I love puns). Really though, Nau’s new website, complete with a preview of their Spring 2007 line (to be released in January), is making me excited to see what these clothes are all about. The goal of the Nau line is to blend beauty, performance, and sustainability into their garments, and from what I have seen so far, they’re sure to succeed with that goal. Nau’s website offers more than just a look at their upcoming line; it offers great organic online content like access to the Nau blog, to the Nau Collective, and to organizations that Nau has partnered with in their quest to develop an environmentally sustainable brand. It is great to see new clothing brands follow the Patagonia model– develop the garments in a responsible way, design them to be user-friendly and attractive looking, and then worry about the profits.
