We at JoshSpear.com are on a never-ending quest to find the world’s most talented emerging artists/designers/animators. To date, we have uncovered our fair share. Here’s another to add to the list. Mauro Gatti (website = The Brain Box) hails from Brescia, Italy, and does some very notable (and may I say, marketable) work. These two are some of my favorites. Mauro did the ‘Even Jesus Got Sneakers’ design for Milan’s Digital Sneakers Exhibition– genious. Check his work out, because I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of it in the near future.

Check out this great spot (wait for it to load and click the top right corner) for UK based mobile phone company Orange. The beautiful piece was done by London based agency Mother in what looks like a collaboration with Nexus Productions. Makes us wonder how many rolls of colored duct-tape it took to complete such a solid commercial!

Toy9It’s simple, fun, and inexpensive gift time. Our pal Undoboy has parlayed his abundant design talent into these Super-Bastard art characters. There are 16 different toys and 64 different characters, from cowboys, to Mr. T, to Conan the Barbarian. You can buy these Super-Bastard toys online at Karmaloop or in person at one of the retailers listed on the website. But hurry, because Undoboy only manufactured 1000 units of each character. They cost $6 for a single Super-Bastard or you can get the entire set for $95. The holiday season is upon us, and I’m definitely going to stuff some stockings with Super-Bastards.

We don’t think postage stamped sized images of Miya Ando Stanoff do her work any justice– but until we get the 3D version of our site up and running in Second Life, they’re going to have to do. A graduate of UC Berkeley, Miya’s minimalist metalwork combines steal and pigments she says she is “ultimately interested in the study of subtraction to the point of purity, simplicity and refinement. We dig her work, and love minimalism work with that kind of story– and Miya has a great one. Half Japanese and half-Russian, she split her time between two very different cultures– living in her family’s Buddhist temple in Japan, and in Northern California. Miya also happens to be the descendant of a Bizen sword maker– and that’s bad ass. You can check out her show going on right now at Art Gotham in NYC through December 9th. The closing reception is that day, from 4-6pm.

Diesel1-3

I have grown to expect great things from Diesel over the years, and although they have been around since 2001, the three Diesel Denim Galleries (New York, Tokyo, and Osaka) help set Diesel apart from the other denim brands. Diesel uses their denim galleries to combine under one roof contemporary art with limited edition product– in the words of Diesel founder Renzo Rosso, ‘to support new talent in music, fashion and art,’ the ‘keystone’ of the Diesel brand. The current exhibit in New York is entitled ‘The Everburning Lights of the Serpent Handler’– it’s a 5-year retrospective of the Diesel Denim Gallery. And while many of you may find it difficult to make the trip to NYC, Tokyo, or Osaka, Diesel just launched a website to give you a taste from the comfort of your own home.

Via Lounge 72

Written On The City is a simple yet compelling project driven by city-dwellers with cameras. They make it easy to upload images, categorize them with a city and open them for commenting. Right now, San Francisco has the most images– while many other cities look to just be getting on their feet. They say “Someone is trying to tell you something. They don’t know you, and it doesn’t matter. They say it anyway, writing on the city itself because the message is important. And so we’re listening. What’s your city saying? Some fun images worth browsing here– got something worthy of sharing on your sidewalk block? Go submit it!
