M-Co-Five-O-ClockTo a lot of us out there five o’clock is the only time in the day that really matters– unless you’re a lawyer, in which case this clock should be probably be called “Midnight O’Clock.” At any rate, the M&Co Five O’Clock was designed by Tibor Kalman, measures 12 inches in diameter, and has an aluminum case and dial, crystal cover, and German quartz movement. Just remember: to avoid pissing off your boss, you best finish all of those TPS Reports before the clock strikes ‘cinco.’

MagneCote has come out with a product that may add a little something to the print advertising you magazine readers see so much of. From what I’ve seen, it’s begun to filter into some design mags out there, and I’m willing to venture a guess that it will soon become widely used in the mainstream (and not just in magazines). They’ve applied a proprietary magnetic coating to Sterling Ultra paper, creating a printable magnetic paper that can be perforated, die-cut, and laminated. In essence, we have before us a new “Magnet Media” that combines utility of magnets with printing capability of high quality paper.

Finding a good typographer isn’t easy. Finding a good animator with a sense of typography this good never even crossed my mind– until now. This quick animation of the famous moment in Pulp Fiction when good ol’ Samuel L. Jackon yells ‘What does Marsellus Wallace Look Like’ is absolutely fantastic. It’s amazing to see how much emotion, movement and intention the animator was able to portray while only showing simple letters, words and colors in different typesets. No idea on the artist, anyone know?

Attention all of you designer/animator/filmmaker types out there– I just ran across a contest that Motionographer and Go Media are putting on. Essentially, you design a 1280×1024 wallpaper using at least one element from a sampling of Go Media’s Vector Packs (a sampling of the sampling is shown above). Submissions will be judged by the distinguished design palates behind the Motionographer site– the winner gets the Ultimate Vector Pack, which is comprised of 28 sets, 448 total pieces of vector art for use in your design work. If you’re interested in entering, there are more detailed instructions here; keep in mind the deadline for submissions is March 9th.
