Tomorrow evening in San Francisco will be the opening of the Last Painted Rooms Art Show at the Hotel Des Arts. Artists have been painting up those rooms for about two years now, and this show will mark the end of that process. If you’re in the Bay Area, head over tomorrow evening from 7-11pm to see people like Shepard Fairey, Sugarluxe, and Jeremyville’s contributions to this incredible hotel customization. In addition to the ten new painted rooms being unveiled tomorrow night, the halls of the hotel will be filled with hundreds of affordable pieces of art available for purchase.

Tonight will mark an important time for video games in Brazil. Fifty-thousand dedicated gaming fans have voted for their favorite 2006 games, and the winners will be announced at the 3rd Annual Trofeu Gameworld event — the largest of its kind in the country — this evening at rock club Clash in the Barra Funda area. For the first time in its history, the event will be open to the public, who will get the rare opportunity to mingle alongside gaming magazine editors and writers and industry heads. Trophies will be awarded in 22 different categories, from Game of the Year to console-specific prizes. After the awards are presented, the audience will be treated to a performance from Mega Driver, a Brazilian heavy metal band whose tunes are inspired by video game music (it’s called “Game Metal”, apparently) and DJ Guab.

Keds, in an odd and uncharacteristic move, recently released a new series under their PRO-Keds line of amazingly geeky, arcade coin-op inspired sneakers. The line, which features old friends like Pac-Man, Asteroids and Centipede, seems to be creating quite a frenzy in both the world as we know it and the world of gaming (where gamers are carelessly abandoning crucial dragon-battles in order to hunt down a pair). Apparently, the shoes are just a little revival of the Pac-Man series the company released in 1982, and I think Keds deserves a nice pat on the back for this bold re-release; partially because the shoes themselves are incredible, and partially because they haven’t really lived this close to the edge since they signed on Mischa Barton as spokesgirl. I’m a little worried that, in production, they neglected to consider the exponential increase in radness of arcade games since the eighties, because these shoes are seemingly impossible to find right now. I found a few (well, two) pairs on ebay, but unless I’ve been in all the wrong places, the land is barren. So happy hunting, guys, and tell us where to go if you find some.

I think you’ll get a kick – as I did – out of Adidas’ new viral campaign called Impossible Story. Somewhat reminiscent of Lollapalooza’s PaloozaHead campaign that we all wasted a workday playing with, this one allows you to upload your head and then quickly create a personalized animation by using the keys on your keyboard– each key makes your character do something different, and your adventure consists of a five-key sequence. The idea is to create your own unique journey that you can share with your friends. There is just something inherently funny about seeing your face on some silly animated character. A word of caution: it may take a while for the flash in this site to load, but once it does, you’ll be impressed.

Attention Boulderites! Word on the street is that this coming Saturday, for six hours only, there’s going to be a sample sale for some drastically discounted summer necessities from Billabong, Reef, Dragon, and Ipath shoes. Who knows, you may even be able to score some gear that won’t make it to the stores. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., head over to 2610 Pine St. in Boulder (it’s on Pine St. between Folsom and 28th St.). Obviously, the earlier the better from a selection standpoint, and tell em we sent you.

The Spear Collective’s own Josh Feldman has just started a new Knacktion project called Nameau. It’s basically a site where you can buy company and product .com names, ready-to-go with logos. Dreaming up a name for a new business venture can be a challenge to say the least, so the goal with Nameau is to help people with that important first step. To me, it’s an interesting way to think about about the initial step of a company’s branding– to go shop for an already constructed name and logo. But then again, why not leave it to the pros in this age of made-to-order everything? Nameau’s prices are all over the board – and some names look to be on sale – but each does include a domain name and a logo design. They’re also available to do custom name and logo creation, site development, and hosting. you can contact the Nameau team here.

Be sure to check out the cockatil creations of this new spirit, including martinis like “Starry Night†on the Lucid site.
Lucid is only available in NYC and the Hamptons…for the time being, that is.

Josh and Jamie know that I hate planes. Josh and Jamie also know I live in a shoebox apartment in Brooklyn, and am obsessed with finding storage solutions that meet my ridiculous standards for form, function and aesthetics. That being said, despite my borderline-phobia of flying, I wouldn’t think twice about putting one of these somewhere in my home. These aeroplane storage trolleys, repurposed by Stephen Boltz into what’s called a bordbar, are multipurpose storage units and fully customizable both inside and out for around 1200Euros a pop. Admittedly, I don’t speak German (that’s how the site is presented), but in any case, I’m totally smitten.
