Who says Cobrasnake and Merlin are the only nightlife photographers who get to swing bourbon and snap pictures? The polarbeer is the project of Gard and Bee, two Norwegian friends who apparently realized that hard-partying Scandinavians are still more attractive than Americans doing the same. The experiment, which has resulted in no short of timeless, boozy shots, is now ran solely by Gard, and is garnering the avid attention of the best of Scandinavian nightlife dedicatees. Mark Hunter himself even gave Gard the thumbs up, proving that alcohol-soaked blondes are still more fun than Mickey Avalon at his wasted-est. Give your mouse a little lovin’ here to experience the experiment firsthand.

Just a few months ago, Kovac Architects broke ground on the Sycamore House, a modern Pacific Palisades residence designed as the home of Principal Michael Kovac. Also to serve as a laboratory for the architecture firm’s ongoing research into environmentally-conscious design, the home is expected to be one of the first in California to receive Platinum Certification from the USGBC LEED for Homes Program. The 3,400 square foot residence has been designed to reflect the environment of the building site, and will draw inspiration from the three Sycamores found on the steeply descending property. Using over 75% of the materials salvaged from the property’s former residence (and an array of sustainable and green construction materials) will ensure that the home is as respectful as it is reflective of the environment in which it lies. Kovac Architects has slated the homes completion for 2008, but in the meantime, more of Sycamore House’s design and material elements can be found here.

Gothamist has a story today on something that combines two of my loves: NYC and Lego. I spent probably a grand total of at least a few years (cumulatively, I mean) during my childhood occupied by my boxes of Legos and now, the Storefront for Art and Architecture has an exhibit by Copenhagen-based architecture group BIG featuring the city of New York created out of Legos. While that’s pretty damn cool, it has been done before. BIG’s version, however, takes it a step further, incorporating some realistic details including some street art by NY faves like Banksy and realistic NY brands such as NYSC and Deal and DeLuca.

The exhibit is already up and running and can be viewed at The Storefront for Art and Architecture at 97 Kenmare St. You can bet your bottom buck I’ll be there before the exhibit closes on November 24th.

A mere 4 months ago, we told you about the ultra-thin ultra-colorful iPod Cases from Shades, but 4 months ago there were no such things as the iPod Nano 3G and the iPod classic. Now we’re pleased to announce that the folks at Shades are keeping up with Joneses, if the Joneses were iPods and therefore have come up with a new line of said ultra-thin, ultra-colorful cases for the brand new line of Apple audio amusement appliances. While probably not as colorful as the music you listen to, the cases are available in 10 vivid “shades” (9 for the Nano 3G) from clearly original to serene green to hot pink, so you’ll certainly have no problem being noticed as you rock on down the block. And if making slick safe shells for your musical machinery wasn’t enough the Shades team is also charitable towards your cause offering a free iPod case with every 100th case ordered, a free 8GB iPod Nano 3G to the 1000th case ordered, and an 8GB iPhone to the 2,007th case that is ordered through their website. Now, if that don’t beat all.

Swedish clothing company Tretorn recently joined forces with the NYC/LA Opening Ceremony stores to create a shoe made especially for crunching through fall leaves. The shoes blend a less rubber-heavy version of the T-56 with the plaid of Opening Ceremony’s autumn shirts, resulting in some very lumberjack/hipster-friendly casual footwear. Prior to catching this heads up on Hypebeast, I was unfamiliar with Tretorn, but after browsing their line I’d be wrong to ask you to hold out for the Opening Ceremony collab (dropping later this month), because even though the plaid shoes caught my interest, it was the company’s hightops, jackets, and ladies wellies that held it.

My roommate stumbled onto this website last night and got all giddy with excitement. He pointed me to a place called Metrofarm, and it became immediately apparent why he was so excited. In fact, not surprisingly, Josh posted about their concrete DJ tables last year. Since then, they’ve expanded their repertoire — these guys do everything, and they do it all very well. Furniture, object design, graphic design, retail displays, party and event production, you name it. Basically, I’m just green with envy; anyone who can set up shop doing whatever they want impresses the hell out of me. And, with a client list ranging from Nike to Absolut to Diesel, they’ve managed to impress someone else pretty well too.

Are you sitting at home, wondering whether you should order in from the Mexican place around the corner run by a Chinese family, or the Chinese place run by a Mexican family down the block? If so, why not eat somewhere the culinary options are limitless, a little place I like to call your own damn kitchen. So you say you can’t cook? Nonsense, if early man figured out how to use fire, you can certainly figure out how to switch on your stove. If it’s the rest of the process that scares you, look no further than iFoods Tv for help. “The website features over 100 free video recipes” prepared by superstar chef Niall Harbison, not to mention tutorials on the proper way to peel, blanch, and chop, to improve your kitchen credentials.

If you already fancy yourself a skillet savant, there’s plenty of other ways to put the site to good use as it also has a social networking element where members are encouraged to upload videos and photos of their own recipes and can even challenge the iFoods TV Chefs. As if you needed any more incentive to join, let us not forget to mention the top iFood users win a monthly prize. What are you waiting for? All you need is a computer and some kitchen utensils, and we know you have a computer. Go make your own dinner!
