Despite our past mixed feelings on the success of the (red) campaign, we've remained supportive of its effect on the proliferation awesome artistic collaborations and solo efforts as a means of raising money for a good cause. This time around we're positively psyched for their latest undertaking. The (red) campaign has called upon some of the art world's most preeminent persons to conjure up some of their best creations for a charity auction aptly named (Auction) Red. Luminaries like Damien Hirst, Banksy, and Jeff Koons are amongst the big names involved in this event that will donate proceeds to the United Nations Foundation to Support HIV/Aids Relief Programs in Africa. If you want to catch a sneak peak of these picturesque pieces before they wind up in the home of someone who can afford them, we recommend heading down to New York's Gagosian Galleryfrom February 4th through 13th. If you find that you fancy one of these fine whether or not you can afford on, the auction will be held at Sotheby's in New York, on the (red)dest day of all, Valentine's Day.

It would not do Joseph Shaeffer justice to simply adorn him with the titles sculptor, fabricator and conceptual artist. You'd be hard pressed to encompass to overall scope of his talents using just those terms. The Boulder, Colorado based principle behind the Studio Joseph Shaeffer exhibits both scientific and mathematic inclinations through his Industrial themed creations. The former student of mechanical engineering at the University of Colorado incorporates kinetic processes along with principles of magnetism to create jaw droppingly, appealing works. Aside from his talents sculpting or whatever you want to call it, he's one heck of a designer. His initial proposal for the World Trade Center memorial could best be described as thoughtful and breathtaking.

When we think Issey Miyake, we think more structured tailoring and fragrances, less dust bunnies and dirty carpeting. Truth is, we don't really think of anyone in relation to the latter, except for maybe our mothers who would disapprove of the state of squalor our surroundings have devolved into. That's all about to change. There's a wind of change blowing in cleaning world and it's not a result of the jet stream, but rather the result of a collaborative efforts of the stylish suction stalwarts at Dyson and the aforementioned Japanese designer. The two have come up with the DC16 limited edition (a.k.a “The Windâ€), a super stylish handheld vac with twice the power of other handhelds, perfect for picking up the pieces from your latest posh party or just sanitizing your sofa region.

Even though artist Andres Sandoval’s academic background lies in architecture and urban studies, this Brazilian has made illustration the name of his game. He’s starring as part of a group exhibit in Sao Paulo’s Canto Gravura gallery, alongside class favorite Apo Fousek, where he’s got delicate hand-drawn papercrafts painted in watercolor on display. They look a little like robots with lots of oddly placed appendages, waiting to walk off the shelf and into an animated reality. But the stuff of imagination isn’t such a far jaunt for Sandoval; he’s illustrated books too, like the award-winning children’s book Amazonia: Legends of the Amazon River, creating fantastic worlds for text to live in. All of his work is so consistently good that trying to find a picture to run with this post from the Cracker Jack box of prizes on his site took me longer than writing it. Procrastinate from your Tuesday work a little more and head there now.
