The modern design aesthetic has influenced a lot of everyday objects: furniture, lighting…nursing beds. Two years ago Paul Hendrikx and Frank Hanssen, the Dutch designers over at Studio Mango (Mixed Art and eNGineering…O), took on a project for Schell Industries and created an ergonomic rolling bed for nursing homes in Belgium and the Netherlands. We don’t suspect anyone reading this will need one in the near future, but you should note some of the other designs from their studio: a retro-inspired bicycle, super-slim bathroom scale, and an electric vehicle recharging station premiering in Rotterdam. What may be the coolest filling station ever, the NGR spot looks like a giant USB hub with a photovoltaic disk on the top to charge your battery in under an hour.

We've definitely made a habit of showing you timepieces that are the opposite of run-of-the-mill. While watch designer Ross McBride's latest creation may be named Extra Normal, it certainly follows the established pattern as being anything but. The Tokyo based designer's latest timepiece appears to be a no-frills ticker with a blank face and three standard hands, but given a closer look one discovers that the hour hand is actually a clever cutout that gradually displays the hour under the clear face, taking this piece from unassuming to unconventional in one fell swoop. Pretty sneaky, but also pretty stylish if you ask us. If you're not into staying apprised of the time on your wrist, you can always keep an Extra Normal wall clock in your home.

Unlike the issues of Entertainment Weekly that we didn’t subscribe to, but end up in our mailbox anyway, Seven Magazine is about pop culture and social responsibility. Since its inception in 2004, the British-based zine takes aim at the global world of arts and entertainment, with the articles ranging from a tête à tête with George Clooney or Keanu Reeves, to political pieces on vanishing Cambodian rainforests and the gangs of Cape Town. Apart from balancing arts and activism (two great tastes which always go great together), Seven has established a foundation that will provide support for underprivileged young adults around the world to create their own artistic endeavors. Recently, the magazine has turned its attention back to the online edition, so expect more content in the next few months.

We've been playing a little Peeping Tom lately; we’ve spent some time peering through the window of your brand new pad. While we certainly noticed your knack for interior design, rocking the sleekest, most well designed furniture money can buy; it seems that the loot you spent on seating left your wallet too empty to address the bare wall situation. Instead of pretending to be such a minimalist when it comes decoration, we think that empty area on your wall can do with a flurry of color. Perhaps you should consider grabbing some prints from the gifted graphic designers at Identity5. The Brooklyn-based company specializes in creating breathtakingly colorful and affordable prints “designed to complement the interiors in which you work play and live.” Each image is printed using museum quality ink and limited to one hundred prints. They are also available in three canvas sizes that are sure to light up any formerly bare space and add to your interior design prowess.

Normally, when we think of Swedish design there is a certain smoothness simplicity that springs to mind. However, all things Swedish aren't as clean cut as that IKEA shelving unit you attempted to put together last week. Some Swedes practice a noticeably anti-IKEA aesthetic. One such designer is ceramic and glass design specialist Gustaf Nordenskiold, whose creations have turned the perceived Swedish design sensibility on its ear by highlighting a certain complexity in things as normal as lighting fixtures and coffee mugs. Nordenskiold's creations eschew symmetry in favor of more natural seeming deformities and entanglements that despite their jagged and chaotic nature still appear to give off an air of order, which is more than we can say for that shelving unit that you lost half of the screws for.

Last year when we introduced you to Brazilian fashion website Gema, we had no idea how much they would grow in so little time. Gema’s own Jose Camarano, a stylist, in partnership with two guys from the Marajoara beachwear brand here in Brazil, have just thrown the doors wide open for a pop-up store in Rio de Janeiro’s Shopping da Gavea mall called Bomba that will exist for only 100 days before disappearing into the annals of pop-up store history (get it, bomb). The selection is top of the line, spotlighting national designers riding on the sharp edge of street fashion, including Amonstro, British Colony, Oestudio, Layana Thomaz and others you likely haven’t heard of, but I promise you’d love. Don’t miss it if you’re in Rio and need an air-conditioned environment after turning into human toast under the sun at Posto 9.
