With countless volumes of compilations and the short-lived lounge hits that comprise them, few stand out in the world of down tempo. The prolific (yet not wasteful) collective of DJs and producers known as Jazzanova hold down one of the finest records of quality in this genre. It’s been a couple of years since they’ve released something other than a remix album, and it’s about time we heard something new. In a brand new effort to fuse instrumentalists, mixing, and production, the crew drops Of All the Things, tomorrow, October 21st, giving us all a solid replacement for that Ibiza Chill-out Lounge Volume 134 we were thinking of picking up.

cover.jpg I’ll spare you all the details of what a Skype conversation from Tokyo is like, but there’s a nice little article about me in this months issue of SOMA Magazine. The article is called “Building Brands One Tweet at a Time: Josh Spear’s Digital Crystal Ball.” I’m blushing. No really, I’m blushing. I’d tell you all to go to the newsstands and buy it, but SOMA actually offers a digital version of it (page 24)! Save money and trees, and read it online. The picture didn’t really come out as expected — meant to be way more bad ass under the Torii gates to the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. Damn art directors cropped out the top. Enjoy.

During the colder months some people take the term “active wear” to mean clothing that you can actively wear while passively keeping warm inside on your couch. Alas, you can be just as active in the autumn as you were in the summer, but you probably just have to wear more layers. Well, that should be no problem now that eco-friendly active wear brand Nau is relaunching with a spanking new website tomorrow, October 21st. You’ll be able hit up their online shop ensuring your ability to suit up for chillier days. Their FA 08 line becomes available to the masses on that very same day and features an impressive array of products from cashmere-angorra dresses to technically-sound ski jackets and pants. And for the first time ever, their products will be available in retail stores such as Paragon Sports in New York, Dan’s in Chicago, and Lizard Lounge in Portland, Oregon. As always, Nau will continue to give proceeds from their sales to organizations working for positive change. Sounds like a win-win situation.

October and November are going to be big months for Artoyz. The French website and magazine that both covers and sells designer toys is slated to unleash a slew of products under it’s Artoyz Original label. The past Saturday they released their exclusive limited 100 piece run of Chaos Monkey figures in both white and guerrilla version, as well as the Elements First Degree figures from Easy Hey. The four figures are comprised of colorful interchangeable pieces representing fire, water, earth, and air. The final new wrinkle in the Artoyz Originals family that was just made available is Kid Onion, a vinyl creation also from the mind of Easy Hey, that is more or less a colorful scaly amalgam of a boy and a vegetable. You know what they say: you are what you eat. Let’s hope you don’t become what toys you play with.

We know it isn’t summer. Especially in England, it definitely isn’t summer. But that isn’t stopping the Royal Parks Foundation and Bloomberg from pushing the Deckchair Dreams line of artistic deckchairs. The chairs were birthed from a desire to see a little more excitement in the outdoor seating that lines the parks and beaches of England in the summer. They’ve brought in kids, artist, designers, everyone to contribute to the painting of these chairs. This past summer a lot of them went up for auction as part of a charity fundraiser. Now they have opened up an online store with a collection of artists and their renditions of the deckchair. Check out their website and store for a full look at the full line and some great fun facts (did you know six of the deckchairs on the Titanic survived!?).
