Many of you met Seth when he told you to be a purple cow. Some of you met him when you fell upon his blog, one of the world’s favorites. The luckiest of you met him in person, either at TED, Google, or one of the other holy places where smart people give speeches. Point being: You know who Seth Godin is, but you might not know him like this.
This is a sofa for the weekend, our siesta. Could you imagine a big beautiful room with large windows quietly overlooking the city and beautiful piece to take a nap on? Andreu Belenguer had that dream and created the work first as a computer sketch roaming the eyes of designers for a year and now it is real. Proof that dreams do come true, and if you happen to fall asleep on the Cosmo, your dreams will be enhanced. The extended arm chair is available at Teys along with other urban furniture dreams. Gorgeous.
Touch displays are going to transform the way we use computers. MultiTouch, a Finland-based company, has just released a truly amazing modular based multi-touch display. They’re completely scalable, from the size of a laptop screen to screens that measure over 66 feet across — only your pocketbook will decide the size of your display. Each LCD screen is HD ready and can be built as a table or a wall unit. The multi-user system allows the direct use of hands to play games, sketch, manipulate, and play around with maps, pictures, and videos — no more mouses (or is it mice?). If you’ve watched CNN lately, you’ve probably seen the MultiTouch in action, moving around the electoral map. It really has to be seen to fully understand its capabilities.
After seeing the new kind of event calendar Tokyo Art Beat has created, we’re compelled to organize our entire life using bouncing, ringing bubbles of information that can be thrown and moved around at will. What we’ve got here is so fun to play with that you probably won’t even start reading the details until ten minutes after loading the site. Check out popular ongoing events, upcoming shows, as well as everything that’s about to end.
And if you’re annoyed that you can’t have this much fun planning your cultural activities here in the U.S., your prayers are being answered in real time … if you live in New York.
Brazil’s telecommuting, six-piece band Nancy are getting a boost from Warp Records’ Born Ruffians. A remix of Nancy’s song “Keep Cooler” has appeared around the Internet and wil be released on a limited edition 7″. The songs original rock crunch is played down in the Ruffians’ remix, yielding a soothing, nearly cowboy-ballad cover that utilizes the refrain, “You were walking, you were walking on me.” Check out the original and the remix at Nancy’s Myspace page or download the remix.
Alert to all the animation nerds in the audience: The wow-worthy trailer for Virgin Comics’ new online animation series MBX, written by real-life superman Grant Morrison and superbly animated by Brazilian motion graphics talent Guilherme Marcondes, is up for giddy enjoyment on their site. MBX is an Indian story about war based on the Mahabarata, one of the longest epic poems ever (according to Wikipedia, it’s a killer at four times the size of the Ramayana). Marcondes, if some of you remember, is the same dude who made the gorgeous short film Tyger that ran the Res Fest and Internet circuits and won too many awards to count on fingers and toes. His work is a little different here, with decidedly more video-game-like graphics but still retaining the stunning, detailed work that engrosses viewers from the get-go. There’s no word yet on when exactly the series will drop, so stay tuned.
Whether you’ve just moved into a new place or you’re looking to spruce up the one you lived in for awhile, odds are you could do with some properly artful decorations. We recommend checking out the astonishing array of wall art at the Design Supremo web store, where they’ve just released a multitude of brand new prints that might help brighten up your bedroom or make your living room more lively. Three designs in particular have captured our fancy: Love Will Never Tear Us Apart is an intricately crafted typographical poster by plusminus (Peter Cmokrak) that maps out the more than 85 cover versions of the Joy Division song; Erica Donovan’s 20 Useful Knots reminds us just what we missed by deciding against a stint in the cub scouts; and the Big Breakfast poster can fit conveniently in your kitchen so that anyone you cook breakfast for knows just what you expect in return. Beyond on that we encourage you to plenty more where those came from.
