When Corey Rich was 13, a teacher noticed that he had very capable biceps. This happened during a pull-up contest – one of those middle school battles to trick kids into fitness over fatness- and Corey had knocked out 35 to win first place by a stretch. The teacher was a rock climber, and he thought the kid might enjoy tagging along. He did.

There's a feeling that comes with experiences of psychological and physical significance, and it's best understood as a crazy mix of endorphins, wonder, and an honest appreciation of your insignificance in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't have an official name – just call it “the feeling that feels like exclamation points,” — but it's addictive as hell. When Corey was 13, he experienced that feeling, and he decided to try to capture it on camera.

It's been 20 years since Corey Rich first made friends with nature, and nearly the same amount of time since he began capturing it on film. Now one of the most sought after adventure sports photographers in the world, Corey's remarkable shots have landed in the pages of most publications worth mentioning, and in the advertisements for the world's most famous brands. We caught up with a freshly de-planed Corey to chat life, lenses, and what it takes to make them work so well together.

The Presidential election comes to an end Tuesday, and no matter who wins, the shirt we wore in support of our preferred ticket will most likely be relegated to “wear at the gym” or “repainting” status. If you’re anything like us, you’re going to need a a new tee or two to replace it in the rotation. We’ve already found a few candidates for those spots at Rhetoric T-shirts. The company’s shirts spotlight designs from top international artists working in multiple disciplines and take inspiration from youth, fringe subcultures, and pop art. The tee images are meant to provoke and engage just as any work of art on canvas. Additionally all tops are comprised of fine textiles including pima cotton. So if you’re in the market for a soft shirt that makes a statement, we highly suggest giving in to the Rhetoric.

Next year is just around the corner and the hunt for a calendar has begun in earnest. Sure you could probably pick up something with arresting images of tractors or your favorite sexy tennis player, but before you jump the gun on that purchase you may want to have a look at the prints that are part of Lifelounge’s Some Type Of Wonderful ‘09 Project. The designs — displayed last week in Melbourne — were part of a response from an array of gifted artists asked to typographically represent each month of the year. Jesse Hora, Si Scott, and ESPO are just a few of the talents assigned to the task, and judging by the results, we’d say they did more than a satisfactory job. Each limited edition monthly masterpiece is currently available in the Lifelounge store, but if you don’t feel like purchasing all 12 to help keep track of the coming year, you can always just get them all in the form of one all-inclusive calendar.

The first rule of Lomography: take your camera everywhere you go. Common sense dictates you should have your lomographic instrument of choice snugly stowed within arm’s reach in case of a photographic emergency. Lomography.com has solved your toting troubles with their new and improved TPE Sidekick bag. The update of this comely carrying case has increased resistance to both water and wear and tear compared to the original. It’s features two compartments; the smaller is ideal for your snapper, while the larger area is for storing big items like your laptop. If you’ve been haphazardly swinging your camera around or cramming it in your pocket, we recommend picking one of these babies up.  More pics after the jump.

It’s almost November, which means two exceptional things: 1) We can dazzle our neighborhood with our 100+ strings of diamond-cut twinkly lights and 2) Most Official Bitches Holiday ‘09. Nothing says “Hello, Santa,” like stringing cranberries in spandex leggings and a bomber jacket, and MOB’s Leah McSweeney is gonna have our asses covered (in really, really tight stuff, but covered nonetheless).

Standout items this season include the aformentioned Bomber, the Cloverfield Jacket, and the Varsity Bitch Jacket, but as always the tees are fresh and accessories worth a breeze through. Browse it here

While the Brazilian street art invasion continues to migrate to the farthest walls of the world, its home territory is getting action from outside street artists as well. A few months ago Parisian stencil artist C215 joined up with the non-profit group Children At Risk Foundation, which gives kids in Sao Paulo’s Diadema favela a place and program to spend their time productively. He registers the experience in a neat, fresh video that follows him around the shantytown, adding 2-D faces and color. Anyone want to take bets that Banksy’s next piece will be found behind a dumpster somewhere in Brazil?

When I put on my cans and listened to the title track of The Asteroids Galaxy Tour’s EP, I immediately thought Apple iPod commercial! They sound just like the kind of obscure Western European dance pop music that Cupertino loves to “discover” then play repeatedly in prime time commercials. Imagine my surprise when I found out the track “Around the Bend” was actually being featured in the new iPod Touch commercials! The band, led by Lars Iversen and Mette Lindberg, has been on a whirlwind adventure, having only previewed their music for friends and hometown (Copenhagen) fans. The music is upbeat and danceable. It’s not as serious as trance or house but still more mature than your typical Top 20 pop song. Soul influences from Marvin and Stevie can be heard on the horns. Mette’s vocals, a combination of slight ruggedness and a distinctive accent are mesmerizing and addictive. I am on my second listen. The digital EP dropped October 28. Look for a full length album in early 2009.
