You know what we like? When the names of people we love (Jesse Hora) start winding up next to names of artists we worship (Si Scott; Alex Trochut; Hellovon). Not that we would expect any less of the designers, illustrators and artists we brag on so thoroughly. But still, every time it happens we feel like one of our kids just knocked out the class bully (see also: brimming with pride and high-fiving all around).

Jesse Hora (Dot Com), fresh off of the much cooed over Some Type of Wonderful (a project also shaped by the aforementioned Si Scott, etc.), took some time to fill us in on the distance he's traveled since '06.

I’ve been spending an endless amount of time in front of the computer these past few days, which explains how I’ve stumbled across another great online Brazilian music site this week (it helps to break up the hip-hop of Radio BoomShot). Sambacana has been hiding in the wings of Spannered for quite some time—they’re 36 shows deep—but don’t get a lot of play, from what it seems like on a cursory Google search. Spannered’s actually archived the shows from a defunct site called Brazil Network, and their foresight is to be commended, because you can’t get a better snapshot of important Brazilian music than this. There’s everything from an interesting capoeira drums-only lineup on Vol. 23 to a hot chronicle of samba and Brazilian funk through the years (Vols. 13 and 14). I’m thinking of throwing a party just to hear these tracks turned up loud. Download these streams before they disappear.

Every year the MoMA store unveils a lineup of holiday cards that makes us reconsider making our own. That and Fluffy always refuses to pose in her Santa suit. When the Modern Art Museum first launched their holiday lineup over 50 years ago, the cards featured original work by artists such as Henri Matisse and Andy Warhol who had pieces in the museum. This pracitice is no longer in season, but the cards are memorable nonetheless. This year the MoMA offers 56 different paper masterpieces printed on high-quality stock that range from the spiritual to the whimsical. So whether doves and driedels are your thing or you’re more moved by an ornery reindeer yanking off a snowman’s holiday scarf you’ll be able to find something that will put a smile on whoever receives one from you. Stay classy, holiday senders.

I had a chance to go to the private viewing of Sickboy’s Stay Free show. When an announcement was made that we were going to have to wait out in the cold because one of the oompa loompas was acting up I knew this art show wasn’t “normal.” Recently opened to the public, the venue takes over an old storage building and transforms it into a street art playground or factory or alley or whatever it is Sickboy wanted to call it that day. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. After the jump, Sickboy’s world of street art.

The mushrooms in Super Mario worked great for getting bigger and scoring extra lives, but we’re well past our 8-bit years and by now, those fungi are a little stale. So Jonathan Ball, a Welsh illustrator and graphic designer who still waxes nostalgic for those good ol’ days of gaming, designed a 3-D illustrated print featuring a new line of nine power-up mushrooms using Blender and Photoshop. The different species of mycelium deliver a wide range of effects, from the powerful (instant death, poison) to the not so intense (confusion and anger, and of course, growth.)

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac x JC in the Sky with Diamonds Collection: Read JS Review | Buy It
Wearable … nah. But I have no doubt of this collection’s historical and artistic significance, so buy something before it winds up at Christie’s, even if it’s just a minifig.

Reebok Bowery Pop-Up Shop: Read JS Review
You only have until Dec 14th to make it to Reebok’s NYC Pop-Up, but shopping after then sucks a big, fat Santa anyway — and also makes you a slacker. Get thee to the Eighties (eh, 169 Bowery).

Richard Haines Sketches: Read JS Review | Buy It
We didn’t think to ask Richard if this gift was even a possibility (oops), but a stylee friend would love a Haines sketch … or better yet, a sketch of him/herself by Haines.

Saint Augustine Academy Reverence Tee: Read JS Review | Buy It ($75)
Look close enough at this tee and you’ll find God. And you thought it was just fashion.

Atmos x K-Swiss: Read JS Review | Buy It
You have to hand it to K-Swiss, the often forgotten brand is being “reborn” and what better way to make a mark than to collaborate with Japanese powerhouse Atmos? Great attention to detail and subtle but distinctive colorways make these kicks a sure bet.

Ospop Shoes: Read JS Review | Buy It ($76)
I know they didn’t originate it but for me the whole clothing with a story concept started with Trovata. Since then, brands like Ospop have put their own spin on things. These shoes are modeled after the same ones used by Chinese blue-collar workers. Needless to say they are updated for durability and comfort. Check them out!

Gram Designs Shoes: Read JS Review | Buy It ($122)
Hailing from Sweden, Gram shoes has been a perennial SuFu (Superfuture) favorite. The interesting materials, most notably waxed cotton, give the shoes a uniqueness and sense of character, not unlike raw denim.
