In addition to being a time for Hallmark’s profits to spike, Valentine’s Day is time for the lovelorn to come together and make magic. In the romantic tradition of the holiday, Meletta, a designer MIMOBOT fashioned by our friends at Tokidoki is quite the smitten kitten — or smitten girl with a monkey on her head as it were. The new and improved mimobot goes by the appropriate name of Pink Meletta, and makes for the perfect token of affection for that special tech geek in your life.
We’ve been fans of Peter Gregson for a while. The young cellist not only is amazingly talented, but his involvement with his fans is always innovative. His new project titled The Words on the Wall takes his concert into the social networking world. The audience will not only be allowed to photograph, record, blog and use their mobile phones, but they will be encouraged. To make things even more interesting they’ve set up a way to feed in all emails, text messages and Twitter comments about the concert and put them on a ‘wall’. As he plays more classical style music (this means, shhh), this is the perfect way to talk without speaking. The concert takes place on January 30th at the Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh (tickets available here for £10/£5). Not in Edinburgh? Don’t worry they’ve got the whole thing streaming in HD from Thewordsonthewall.com.
Paper Tiger is about to celebrate their premiere anniversary, and they’ve just released the first print of the new year: Nathan Ota’s “Touch of Class.” The young company features exclusive giclee and silk-screened prints in a range of sizes, as well as one-of-a-kind Artist Editions which may be enhanced by “paint, ink, tea stains, resin or other mediums.” With a roster of artists including Camilla D’Errico, Tessar Lo, Nate Frizzell, Deth P. Sun and Yoskay Yamamoto, Paper Tiger is the antidote to blank walls.
It’s not often that we’ve had reason to dance during our morning commute, but the prospect of better cell phone service just might cause us to “spontaneously” cut a rug given the proper soundtrack. T-Mobile’s feel good ad of the season transforms the woeful working class routine of going to the office into a lively choreographed case of boogie fever amidst the hustle and bustle of the Liverpool Street station. The lesson here is that “life’s for sharing”, whether it be text messages, the two-step or the mutual desire to never hear that Pussycat Dolls “Don’t ‘Cha” song ever again.
The new Friendly Fires tune “Skeleton Boy” is one that’s upbeat enough to be on repeat for the next week (it’s already on its fourth playback in the duration of the writing of this post). But the real beauty is in the simple, visually arresting video directed by Clemens Habicht. The three band members were outfitted in black suits covered with double-sided sticky tape that caught bean bag balls to form the outline of skeletons on their bodies. If it sounds complicated, it’s actually a wonderful way to highlight the singers’ movements—so much so that your furniture could become a casualty as you dance along.
I’m pretty sure I ran into these new Nike Blazer Low Velcro Lux’s when I was in Tokyo a few months ago. Maybe it was an early release. I’m still kicking myself for not buying them — they’re lovely. Basic white, black and red colors made with premium full grain leather. Our pals at High Snobiety call it “quiet sophistication” and we totally agree. More pictures after the jump.
