I didn’t think I liked country music until I heard Cajun Moon. I realized that I had judged country the way people judge hip-hop … by what’s on the radio. JJ Cale came before it all and he’s stuck to his style, which has influenced many, including Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. The survivor of his musical era is still writing and recording. Roll On has all the rythmic drive of his early work and shows us a more refined songwriter with tighter arrangements.

Design Within Reach may still not quite be within your monetary reach, but at least now they’re helping us to lend a hand. For the third year in a row, DWR — with the help of both its Denver and Seattle officers — are hosting the Design the Modern Board competition alongside K2 Snowboarding. Submit a graphic design by March 6th and you’ll have the chance to have your image take to the slopes. Voting will take place at the DWR Denver studio on March 27th. Proceeds from the boards will benefit the Snowboard Outreach Society that helps youth build self-esteem through outdoor activities.

Any time we find ourselves watching movies from the 50s or reliving the last season of Mad Men, one thought persists, it was sweet when men wore hats. While the headpiece is no longer an essential part of looking professional, it has ascended to icing status. For slick looks, Still Life NYC has a plethora of options. From the classic looking Dumile to the slightly sportier Keo, the LES based boutique carries most items from their shop on their online store as well.

Here’s further evidence that the fabric separating virtual and real life is a fine mesh indeed. The enterprising design firm Go Media, is riffing off the popular “Fail” Internet meme with actual adhesive Fail stickers. Rather than hide behind your laptop and cowardly label other people’s embarrassing photos with a Fail tag, you can now, literally, stick it to them. The Fail stickers are currently available in quantities of 5 – 50 at Failsticker.com. They feature the all-important criteria of a clear background, Impact font and the right size and color for legibility from up to 200 feet. At a buck a piece, it’s officially hunting season to start tagging anyone seen wearing American Apparel’s new “mustache mask.”

Nearly everyone will come up with a great T-shirt idea at least once in their life, but not everyone will see it produced. Whether you’ve got some sick design skills or a great slogan, your tee deserves to be seen by the masses. Dirty Launderette wants to make your wearable wish come true. The new shirt-based social networking site asks users to create profiles and upload their one of a kind clothing content. Creations are then voted on by the online design community (or the friends they get to join it) over the course of a three week cycle. Once that cycle stops spinning, the winning design is added to the Dirty Launderette shop and the designer gets a free copy. Reap fashionable rewards by voting, purchasing tees and posting pictures to earn free clothing. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to us.
