Capacete.jpgThough it’s already in a hot lipstick-red color, the spectacular sleekness of the Capacete E8 motorcycle helmet by Sao Paulo design firm Questto Design is a serious competitor for your attention. Winner of the 2009 IF Product Design Award in its category in Brazil, this sexy helmet made from plastic resin boasts flexibility: you can wear it open-visor or with the chin lifted to let in more air, which makes it seem like it’s completely open (in Sao Paulo, when they stop to make a delivery, motorcycle delivery guys will take their helmets off to the point that it’s holding only the crown of their head). It’s being put out by Brazil-based EBF helmet company and will likely only be sold within Brazil, but nevertheless, it gives out true border-jumping inspiration in the industry for a motorbike essential. Daft Punk might consider a change of headwear after seeing this hottie.

Drawing is becoming a bit of a lost practice. When was the last time you sat down and drew Pamela Anderson receiving a coffee from a bull snake. For me it’s been so long that I’ve forgotten how. If you’ve forgotten too don’t stress, Alyana Udesen and her drawing books to the rescue. Featuring such tutorials as Nelly & the Empire Penguin, Pamela & a Rat Snake, Mariah & a House Rat and Worf & a Wolf. These tutorials fit right along with her amazing collection of drawings that remind me of the things I wanted to draw on my book covers in high school. Check out here online profolio and the full tutorial books for free on her website. Print versions of the books and full size prints of her works are available in selected stores (I found some in Domy).

Ross Lovegrove never ceases to amaze us with his serious industrial design talent. We assume that it’s his knack for combining that which is visually stunning with an absurd amount of practicality that drew the folks at Biomega into his collaborative arms for what amounts to a stunning addition to their ever growing line of “furniture for locomotion,” or what in layman’s terms could be called a pretty sweet bike. The Biomega Bamboo utilizes a natural material that when properly prepared, is stronger than steel. The result is an eye-catching fusion of nature and innovation on two wheels. To catch a sneak peek at this cycling sight to behold, head over to Milan’s Design Library at Via Savona between the 22nd to 27th of April, where it will be on display from 10am to 10pm. Congrats JMS!

At first glance, interdisciplinary Oakland-based artist Desirée Holman’s  burqa and bikini wearing women bear little resemblance to the pencil-drawn character wearing a Liza Minelli-esque mask that opens Holman’s website, so much so that you may wonder if they were created by the same person. Alas, the work is all Holman’s: the former sculpture student has received nationwide acclaim after getting early attention from the University of California at Berkeley’s creative Eisner Awards in both video and photography. She says she’s primarily influenced by sociology and psychology, fantasy-based cultures, online gaming, and music videos. Elements of each can be seen as her newest work, the drawing and video series “Reborn,” opens at San Francisco’s Silverman Gallery this Friday night.
