Green is the new black and this year companies are definitely heeding the call as more and more of them are adding eco-friendly elements into their product lines. Few though, can compare to El Naturalista, a Spanish footwear company that is built from the ground up as an earth-centric corporate citizen. El Naturalista has some key philosophies by which they operate: focusing on using natural and recycled ingredients and avoiding polluting and toxic substances in the manufacturing of their shoes and packaging. The Fall line is already making its way to retailers worldwide. Women should take a look at the Yggdrasil collection for subdued styling but with details that warrant a double take. For men, I am particularly fond of the Recyclus line which uses recycled rubber in the soles, cork midsoles, hand-sewn uppers and 100% recycled packaging. With a clear focus on nature and a design team that works hard to show that you don’t have to choose between style and sustainability, El Naturalista has this down pat. Look for their FW09 collection in stores now.

Consider Class Attire partners JinYen Huynh and Chris Carew's are the ultimate forgivers. The Chalkboard Tee they designed in Brooklyn is made to be written, scrawled, and drawn on before being erased. Baby “chalkboard underoos” may be unveiled soon (and before you ask, the LA-sewn Ts and Florida-created chalk pockets on the sides of the shirts are made for kids as well as adults). What more would you expect from a company that promises “we make people popular”? It's the ultimate grade school throwback.

My pals at Mimobot partnered with the good guys at Infectious to come up with a plan to find the next design for a mimobot. Grand prize winner gets $1,000. This should be fun!

Bay Area creative type Cindy Liu was feeling frustrated by a lack of likeable masks in preparing for a friend's masquerade birthday party last year when she decided to create her own. When asked to describe the lovingly humorous (and androgynous) hand embroidered face scarves she now markets as Archicraft at craft fairs and on Etsy , Liu says simply: “I love moustaches and wearing bandanas…it all naturally came together.” At less than $20 a pop, they make a good gift for facial hair-challenged and good humored friends looking for moustaches in black, brown and blonde against colorful bandanas.
