An amazing group of Norwegian creative people have decided to test their skills on the development of a new bicycle concept. Simplifying the essence of a bike is the basic idea behind Alta Bikes. The result is a unique and attractive bike which is both very light and easy to maintain. Alta is meant for those city riders who need to carry their bike upstairs into their apartment or to work– and of course to not only get them off the street but to proudly display them in their living rooms. Its first production series was quickly sold out and the next one will soon be available with a new variety of colors besides the green shown here.

Would you know if the new Alta bikes that are going to be coming out will be distributed anywhere in the US? In looking up the info on their site the price of shippping from Norway is almost the same price as the cost of the bike. Would love to know if any bike shop that you are aware of will carry them in 2007.

Info on buying the bikes – they’re not cheap, $999 USD, +$130 shipping USD, and $53 USD transaction fee.

If you go to Alta bikes’ website and then select “ORDER”, fill that out, send the email, they’ll get back to you with some more info on the bikes, including a couple of pdf’s showing the colors that are available. http://altabikes.no/

And @B-rad, rock on dude, I’m 18, been riding my bike to school and everywhere else since freshman year, and just now got my license I still don’t drive much. You might look into getting a job as a builder at a bike shop in the summer, that way you’ll learn how to work on bikes, get some money, and the famous discount.

Oh, and there are no dealers that carry Alta, the only way to get them is directly through the company.

Hmm…for the cost of the bike, you can get 2 Bianchi Pista hipster specials. Not to be a naysayer, but the bike doesn’t seem to bring anything new to the table. Go to your local swap meet or garage sale and convert a 70/80’s bike for street cred.

LOOK AT THE CHAIN RING 4 SCREW, ITS A PIECE O SHIT, AMAZING LOOKING BUT NOT WORTH THE MONEY, BUILD YOUR OWN WITH A SOMA RUSH FRAME AND QUALITY PARTS, YOU’LL BE MUCH MORE HAPPY!
