Branko Lukic, an industrial designer and author, has given us yet another reason to drink with his clean bottle design for the new Vertikal Vodka. Through the intentional use of simple lines and a wide mouth screw top (they say it’s the “World’s First Neckless Bottle”), Lukis designed the bottle while keeping in mind a life beyond it’s original purpose. He recommends using it as a vase, but I can think of plenty of other uses for something so pretty. No word yet on whether the actual contents of the bottle live up to the high standards of the outside– and no word on release dates or pricing (although we know it’s going to be released by V Vodka)– so if anyone’s managed to give Vertikal a taste test, let us know what you thought.

I don’t believe that this is the “World’s First Neckless Bottle.” I have 6 Pom Tea Bottles in my kitchen cabinet that I use as drinking glasses. These have been out for quit some time.

This is not to say that the design of the Vertikal Vodka isn’t good. I think it is great. I just thought I’d share.

Purely out of curiousity, where is the line drawn between a bottle and a jar? Isn’t this a jar? I admit it’s an original use for a jar, but it is still a jar… A tall jar.

WELL HMM. Perhaps the line is drawn inbetween liquids and solids. I wouldn’t say “flour bottle” or “water jar”… but then again, some liquids do feel right encased in a jar (the word “whisky,” for reasons I can’t pinpoint, sounds kind of nice with the word “jar.” Maybe that’s just because it sounds similar to “jug”- who knows). Ha. Maybe… there is no line….

I think what may separate Vertikal’s design from that of the POM bottles is that their future use is primarily as a glass, thereby establishing them as a neckless GLASS, not a neckless bottle.

Uhh sorry what about the Voss water bottles? It’s the only water I’ll ever drink and the design is way too similar. Hmmm.

Great point Dee. I totally forgot about the Voss bottle. “the only water” you’ll ever drink, huh? You must be loaded. I’m usually only able to afford brita “filtered” Philly tap water. Great year, nice legs and tastes industrial. What more could you ask of something that is supposed to be clear and “tasteless”??
