What if you could go back to a summer camp where all you did was arts and crafts? Well, Firebelly Design is about to make you one happy camper. Camp Firebelly, a two week graphic arts program / sleepaway camp, is ready to accept applications for ten gifted design students to take part in a work-intensive project for a non-profit client. In lieu of tents, Firebelly is letting you camp out in their Chicago loft. And, if you really miss the swimming and canoing of your childhood…there’s always Lake Michigan. From the sound of it, the days will be long, and the nights may not be full of s’mores and ghost stories. But, it will look a heck of a lot better on your resume than that first place archery ribbon.

I first started reading this thinking, wow. what a fun project/opportunity.

Then I read the application. It costs $1000 to attend?! What?

No talented student or young designer should pay anyone to gain experience.

Heck, they should be paying you for your talent and hard work. Get an internship, maybe even a paid internship.

Sarah — to your point, I would agree normally, but this is an all expenses paid trip. We’re using the cash to pay for food + drinks, plus we have to rent a van + pay for gas, as well as all the activities we’ll do that cost dough…they won’t be paying for anything but personal purchases.

What’s a college credit cost these days? Seems like a bargain to me.

PS – we are not making any money on this, in fact we’re closing down our entire studio for the 10 days. So, actually the studio will be losing money during this time.

WOW Sarah! Do some due diligence on Friebelly and the amazing work Dawn and her team does! This past holiday season she closed her office down for I think two weeks and brought everyone to Thailand to do work FOR THE PEOPLE!

I only wish I were still a student to be able to particpate and work along side Dawn and her merry band of designers and give back just a fraction of what she does all year long!

BRAVO Dawn!

I am going to be there, I was one of the lucky 10 people accepted and I couldn’t be more happy to pitch in my $1000 to participate. Here’s to camping!

$1,000 is nothing for how amazing this is going to be. You must have missed all the sweetness that is included in the info on campfirebelly.com. No way would anyone expect that all to be covered for 10 people.

And like Dawn said, what’s a college credit going for these days. I guarantee that these 10 days will be more beneficial than a class or even a semesters worth of classes could ever be.
