I wouldn’t normally make big claims like I have ‘The Next Big Band’, because I’m not really into predictions– I’m more into scenarios. With that said, I’m going to walk out on a limb and say Portland-based band Climber, might indeed be the next big thing. I was absolutely blown away with the combination of radiohead-esque melodic elements, smart, mature lyrics, and downright bad-ass head nodding sound. The song writing reminds me of Ben Gibbard, the electro-pop sound of Postal Service– but they still seem to hold my attention with a unique and individual sound. As far as I can tell they don’t tour much past their hometown, but I really think it’s only a matter of time before we start to hear them a lot more– in fact some of their songs seem almost written for films. Theirs a 5 song EP on iTunes worth checking out, and lots of songs to download off their website. My current favorites: Escape, Always Right, Foxes, and Hornes.

….You should really check out this new band Senium. They’re unknown as of right now (2009) but judging by the way they sound, it doesn’t sound like they’ll be unknown for much longer (well 2010 is coming….time for a change in music, ay?). Their sound is completely in your face but absolutely refreshing at the same time. Nothing like them has been around for years and I’m happy that there’s at least one good new ROCK band around today. http://WWW.MYSPACE.COM/SENIUM1 check them out, you really won’t be disappointed if you like real-sounding rock music. They’re from South Jersey and are the most unappreciated band of all time. Senium is the underground of the underground, can’t even fit in with any of the other local bands around (partly because I think all the other local bands suck and are very jealous of Senium, but that’s my personal opinion) They are starting work on their first album which they are recording with Steve Albini out in Chicago this fall. Stay tuned because you aren’t going to want to miss this band explode.

That band sounds like a shitty ripoff of Nirvana and Mudhoney
