When I saw a video of Kaki King playing a private show with Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl, I had mixed feelings. On one hand, I was glad that one of my favorite musicians was getting the admiration she deserved. On the other hand, my little secret was out. Having been nominated for a Golden Globe for her contribution to the Into the Wild soundtrack with Eddie Vedder, Kaki has moved on to collaborations with Teagan and Sara and the Foo Fighters. Her latest effort, Dreaming of Revenge, demonstrates unmistakable maturity in her musics style. The signature calming Kaki sound is still present but there are additional layers of complexity, including deeper lyrics and layered guitar work “under very simple, beautiful melodies.” The album drops March 11. Run out and buy it and see her on tour, starting with South by Southwest the very next day.

Kaki will definitely shine in those collabs, and while it won’t be the experimental goodness we’re used to, I can guarantee it’ll be more mature pop than we’re used to from the Foo Fighters and company.

“On the other hand, my little secret was out.”

Sigh. I’m with you, brother. But good for her, nevertheless. :)
