I’m pretty sure this is the same camera as the more-affordable-but-still-expensive Panasonic DMC-LX3 (featuring Leica parts in a slightly-different body). I bought an LX-3 recently. I haven’t used it all that much yet, but it seems very nice (fairly intuitive manual controls, large, bright screen, good battery life, and the photos seem to be of very good quality). I’ve taken it along on hiking and climbing excursions in Western Colorado. The optical zoom is pretty short (2.5x), so this is a camera better suited to shooting things close to you, or for landscapes and such. “Safari” makes me think of taking pictures of wild animals, and I would think that would be fairly difficult without a little more zoom… I suppose the Safari edition is more about style anyway. It would be nice to have a bag for the camera. I have it on a strap (included) since it’s a little big for a pocket.
