Go to Light to Unite and light a (virtual) candle. Why? Because for every candle that’s lit, Bristol Myers Squibb (the huge pharmaceutical company) will donate $1 to the AIDS crisis to show its support (World AIDS Day is December 1st, remember). They’re only donating up to $100,000, which seems like a drop in the bucket for a multi multi multi billion dollar-a-year company, but every little bit helps. More than anything, I want to flood the site with as much traffic as possible so that the hit counter sky-rockets– as a show of support for the many affected by HIV and AIDS.

There’s no reason to go and light anymore candles. I just went to light one and it said there were already 164,000 candles lit.

I’m not into supporting large pharma companies in their ARV ad campaign. There are other solutions to the “AIDS Pandemic” like tackling the issues of poverty and the sexual objectification of women. Sorry Jame! It’s what I feel!!!!

It sure is a drop in the bucket: Charles Heimbold, the former CEO of BMS, received $150 million in compensation in 2001.

This whole concept it thoroughly disgusting. They’re giving money to an educational organization that will provide information about treatments, etc. Ironically, BMS manufacturers drugs for HIV / AIDS treatment. Shouldn’t they be happily giving money to these type of organizations since, in the end, it’ll all come back to their own pockets many times over by drug sales? This whole concept is just a sales tactic to make BMS look good.
