I found and shared the OHSO Tootbrush with my readers more than a year ago and it’s been quite a popular item. Since it’s release the company has gone through some amazing growth. In the past I’ve said the OHSO is the sexiest travel toothbrush on the market and in my opinion that still reigns true– but all of the OHSO people found it had one major flaw. If you left the cap on for too long the condensation on the wet bristles inside caused it to become a little musty and sometimes if left long enough even a bit moldy. The OHSO team took our valued input and just released a vented cap version. It’s a bold design reminiscent of a shark gills– with the same protection for us seasoned and serious travelers. Well done OHSO! You heard it here first, one more detailed shot after the jump!

OHSO, for GreatWhite teeth!

sygyzy Tuesday, 05.30.06 @ 6:27 pm

Purchased two (one as a gift for a friend) of these for a 2 week trip to the Mediterranean. Great idea except it’s very poorly made. The fit and finish is not the greatest, it’s hard to get the toothpaste tube to fill up consistently (read: air pockets and gaps). I can live with those two complaints. My biggest problem, though, is that the tube that dispenses the toothpaste slamsagainst and scratches your teeth while you are brushing. They should make the dispensing tube shorter or figure out a different way of placing it. I like clean teeth but don’t want to rub hard plastic against it everytime I brush.

Richard of OHSO Tuesday, 05.30.06 @ 7:32 pm

Thanks for your observations sygyzy…yes, I recall you saying that in an email to me about six months ago. It’s unlikely that the toothpaste delivery nozzle is scratching your teeth. This nozzle is made of soft silicone and is completely innocuous. It is more likely that the bristle head substrate is coming into contact with your molars due to “mashing”. One of the design tradeoffs we had to make for portability was shorter bristles. So it doesn’t mash as well as some brushes.

Also, OHSO is a pump. And like all pumps it has to be primed. So filling it for the first time is more difficult than subsequent fillings. I have received about 30 calls from customers having difficulty filling the chamber for the first time. After walking them through it, it works fine.

I point out to squeeze excess air from the tube and screw it on tight but not too tight to strip the threads on the tube. Sometimes the threads on the tube are stripped making it difficult to fill.

There are a handful of people who just can’t fill it and they just can’t make it work. For them I can only offer a replacement or their money back as I did to you sygysy.

Sincerely,

Richard B. Trocino
OHSO/CEO

OSHO/CEO: What was the point of making public sygyzy’s emails and returns? That’s an incredibly unprofessional response to product criticism from a customer who’s actually taken a chance and bought and used your product.

Richard of OHSO Wednesday, 05.31.06 @ 5:48 pm

Thank you for pointing that out June. I covet my customers and respect anybody who is bold enough to spend their hard earned dollars on my invention. We go to great lengths to ensure satisfaction among our customers. This was, in fact, the point Josh Spear was making in his posting: that we listen to our customers and respond with improvements to the product.

We are also careful to respect the privacy of our customers who include some very notable figures of the day. Sygyzy is a blog host, and in my eyes, a member of the press who has unfairly attacked my product and company. Additionally, his blog site reveals a lot of personal information about himself that he has freely published. And finally, he broadcast inaccurate statements about OHSO on JoshSpear.com. As such, he has given up his right to anonymity in my eyes.

Mr Sygyzy’s comments were uncalled for. First, he failed to mention that OHSO promptly offered to send him a replacement or give his money back. Second he fails to appreciate what the OHSO Marko is: the first concept model in a line of great new designs and styles. And third, his writing style is poor. For example what relevance does going to the Mediterranean have to the design of a toothbrush?

No June, statements like Sygyzy’s on JoshSpear.com should not and will not go unchallenged.

I’m surprised by the negative comments about the OHSO toothbrush. I have one. LOVE it. I do agree that the first time I put the toothpaste in was a bit difficult for me. I put it down to my airheadedness. But, after that ‘trial’, it has been fabulous.
The people at OHSO have been friendly and my toothbrush has definitely held up exceptionally well.
Besides that, it is fun. My friends drool over it and my teeth thank me.
All that aside, I wish the best of luck to everyone on here and hope this debate doesn’t become unnecessarily negative. Bad vibes suck.

sygyzy Thursday, 06.01.06 @ 10:17 pm

I should preface by saying that I indeed was offered a refund by OHSO. I failed to mention that, though I don’t quite understand what difference that makes. I ordered and paid for the product and I feel I have ever right to voice my concerns. Getting offered a refund does not magically make the product good.

Which takes me directly to my next points. Richard (OHSO) claims that I have unfairly attacked his product. What is unfair about it? I purchased the product. I paid for it. I used it extensively. I sent critical feedback and was told that basically I am too dumb to use the product. Richard repeatedly takes stabs at my personal character and intelligence:

Quote: “There are a handful of people who just can’t fill it and they just can’t make it work. For them I can only offer a replacement or their money back as I did to you sygysy.” [sic]

He starts off talking about people who were so frustrated they actually had to picked up the phone and called for assistance. Then he tells us that there are people that are just too dumb to “make it work.”

Quote: “And finally, he broadcast inaccurate statements about OHSO on JoshSpear.com”

What was inaccurate about what I posted? I am not sure Richard understands the concept of an opinion or review. I posted my opinions about a product that I have first-hand knowledge of.

Quote: “Second he fails to appreciate what the OHSO Marko is: the first concept model in a line of great new designs and styles. And third, his writing style is poor. For example what relevance does going to the Mediterranean have to the design of a toothbrush?”

Again, the character bashing. I “fail to recognize”? I realize OHSO is probably a 2 person company, but maybe they should hire a few more people and seperate founder, engineering, marketing, and PR.

What does my writing style have to do with anything? I mentioned that I took it on a trip. I might be mistaken, but it *is* marketed as a travel toothbrush, is it not? To be fair, the toothbrush design would have sucked if it was in the Mediterranean, Japan, Australia, or anywhere but in the trash.

I never claimed to be a professional reviewer. I was not sent an evaluation sample. I purchased two of the items and put faith in a company that I thought made a product that addressed a need. I am not sure how my having a blog has anything to do with my expectation of privacy regarding private correspondence with a company. How far does your logic extend Richard? I am sure the so called “notable figures of the day” that you count as customers are constantly in the public spotlight. Care to publish some of their emails? Note: I actually don’t have much issue with him mentioning that we corresponding before since I am reiterating my criticisms of the product. I just find humor in his logic on what and what doesn’t define privacy and a public figure.

In the end, June put this most succintcly. “That’s an incredibly unprofessional response to product criticism from a customer who’s actually taken a chance and bought and used your product.”

Any more trash talking and I’m going to close the comments on here, period.

I checked out that sygyzy dude’s blog site and it looks like a rip off of the old josh spear site before the new and improved look.
