It’s our party and we’ll use a mass invite site if we want to. Preferring the superior Crusher to the mind-numbing Evite, yet another option in the e-invitation scene has emerged. Pingg (you can decide what the extra consonant is for) gives you a no-frills event planning site that’s not much in the way of cutesy clip art or graphic options, but what Pingg lacks in sexiness it makes up for in versatility. Feel like your friends are trying to ignore your 30th Birthday Blowout? The surroundSend (TM!) feature shoots the invitees an e-mail, an SMS to their cell, and links to an event page in Facebook. It has rendered your ordinary e-mail blast about as effective as a telephone chain. Of course, if you’re looking for an excuse to miss the party, this is probably your worst nightmare.

It is really amazing that Evite has lasted so long. I don’t know that my friends are ignoring my invites that often, hey it is certainly worth trying!

John – thanks for the post. We really hope that we have made a difference in this space. Our focus really been on providing great aesthetics (sexy even :) ) for actual digital invites combined with a high level of functionality and tools. Feedback and comments are very welcome.

I think the extra consonant stands for “greeeeeaaaat” (couldn’t resist).

I think the product stands for itself–beautiful invitations, which is something online digital invitations have been lacking since inception. About time.

Hey Josh,

Have you had a chance to check out Planypus? While less invitation focused and more collaboration focused – we are aiming to solve the problem of friends casually planning events _together_. Give it a shot: http://planyp.us – and we have a redesign coming up too! Take a look here: http://facebook.com/pages/Planypus/8323387229

Thanks!

I’m really liking pingg. The soroundSend send options are a host’s dream come true. I had to change the time last minute and managed to let everyone know via the sms option. It could have been a mess. Thanks http://www.pingg.com
