Dowling Duncan wants to renovate America’s image abroad, by redesigning our money. Check out the other entries in the Dollar ReDe$ign Project. These particular bills are designed lengthwise:

Dowling Duncan say they conducted extensive research on how people deal money and discovered that transactions are almost always carried out vertically. It’s true: How often do you hand someone a bill clutching the center widthwise? How many money machines accept cash horizontally? The new orientation would obviously take some getting used to, but in Dowling Duncan’s view, it’s ultimately more instinctual. More here.

Lengthwise is fine with the obvious exception of when money is in your wallet.

Also, regardless of your politics, it seems silly to put the current sitting president on the $1. This country has a rich history of leaders to choose from.

It will be a long time before the US government adopts a practical currency design.

Intriguing design/layout. I find it terribly ridiculous to put Obama and his logo on any of our currancy! But maybe it would just be a reminder as to how much money he has wasted.

Not that we can see much detail, but preventing counterfeiting has to always been considered.

America definitely needs a currency face-lift.

Living in Australia for the past ten months and handling the AUD I reckon has more of a 21st century feel and ease of use. I thought the colors were funny and the plastic handling was uncomfortable, but when I needed a 20 from my wallet at least I knew a bright red tender wasn’t hard to miss.

Leaving politics out of it and seeing the bigger picture I actually dig the concept from Obama to Roosevelt. It’s about our rich history of triumphs and milestones with that bit of knowledge that every American should carry in their pocket, the Bill of Rights. Hell, never know when you may need it!

Oh god, i knew it wouldn’t take long for the politics-whores to commandeer the comment section. Currently having dead slave owners and bigots on our money is FINE though -_-

These designs are great. Best of all of the collections Ive seen. Bravo.

Conceptually, these designs are good. While I like the use of varying sizes, colors, american symbolism, and vertical layout, I can’t help but to look at them and think,”Web 2.0″. Which, I guess, is a design aesthetic many, many agencies are leaning towards these days. It’s simply trendy looking… apropos for this particular blog (for the record, one of my favorites).

That said, after marinating on the overall look and feel of this set, I really don’t feel that Dowling Duncan deliver anything we haven’t seen before.

IMHO

Simpatico, how do you feel living in a country founded by God fearing, tax hating, slave owning bigots?

And why do you think it’s okay to live on stolen land?

You make me sick with your hypocrisy. If you don’t like the Founding Fathers and all they did to preserve YOUR freedom, then buzz the f off!
