I’ve been spending an endless amount of time in front of the computer these past few days, which explains how I’ve stumbled across another great online Brazilian music site this week (it helps to break up the hip-hop of Radio BoomShot). Sambacana has been hiding in the wings of Spannered for quite some time—they’re 36 shows deep—but don’t get a lot of play, from what it seems like on a cursory Google search. Spannered’s actually archived the shows from a defunct site called Brazil Network, and their foresight is to be commended, because you can’t get a better snapshot of important Brazilian music than this. There’s everything from an interesting capoeira drums-only lineup on Vol. 23 to a hot chronicle of samba and Brazilian funk through the years (Vols. 13 and 14). I’m thinking of throwing a party just to hear these tracks turned up loud. Download these streams before they disappear.
