When it comes to having a career art, I guess you could say James White always had stars in his eyes. The Halifax, Nova Scotia based mixed media artist and graphic designer has been playing around with pencils since the age of four. Since then he's forged his own path, studying graphic design at the community college level and Interactive technology afterwards. Despite taking jobs in the website/ graphic design field, White has never stopped working on his unique brand of ‘retro-cosmic’ art. His stunning otherworldly creations, inspired by everything from Atari to Daft Punk certainly display a unique knack for expanding the viewer visual universe. If you'd like to set your sights further into White's outer space, we recommend heading over to his website, Signalnoise and checking out some of his creations for yourself.

I like his work. It’s very aesthetically pleasing in an eye candy way but he is a total, and I mean total one-trick-pony. This is a flash in the pan in the making. No one will remember this stuff 6 months from now. Zero versatility.

You’re probably right, they won’t remember this series 6 months from now. By then, he’ll probably have something new on the go given the serial nature of producing this sort of work.

Have you checked out the other stuff on his site? He’s been working for a long time and this is only one of many series he’s posted online. Go check it out itdoesntmatter. You may be surprised!

itdoesntmatter: I disagree. I think James has a current style (that’s great), but he strikes me as the kind of guy who’ll be back with some fresh techniques soon.

Sure, it seems like a lot of these posters are created the with similar methods, but if you want to refine a technique then you have to stick at it for a while.

James is a-ok in my book :)

Actually, itdoesn’tmatter, if you look at his flickr stuff, he has a pretty large portfolio of varied work. True, he seems to be gaining exposure from just these types of pieces lately, but, his previous work is actually very nice, and much better imo.
