Who taught you to drive? This question will undoubtedly spark some interesting stories from almost anyone you ask and it’s the question BMW asks on newly launched, RelearnToDrive. Relearn features hilarious videos with different characters (agro gym coach, war vet grandpa, cig smoking “drive with both feet” mom, etc.) who may have taught you to drive, but have no clue what they’re talking about. After a hearty laugh, you can “Undo the Damage” at the BMW Performance School site that highlights everything the school has to offer — which is more than plenty — and showcases some insane driving footage. The ‘Testimonials’ and ‘Instructors’ sections are must sees!

We’re thrilled to have “firsties” on the just-launched site and even more thrilled to have you, the readers, share the funny, humiliating, exhilarating, and scary stories about how you learned to drive. Without further adieu, I’ll give you all the green light!

I learned to drive in my best friend’s Jeep pickup at a huge mountain biking/dirt biking/recreational area in Colorado. He had a dirtbike, so he just gave me the keys to the truck and said, “have fun!”. Probably not the best idea.

I learned to drive while my dad was “test driving” a car. A lot better to beat up a transmission that isn’t yours :)

We had the arcade game “Race Driving” in our house. I played that everyday for like 5 hours. Oh yeah and 2 fast 2 furious.

I learned to drive a stick shift red probe in a parking lot of a brand new amphitheater in Lawrence KS, got stopped by the cops at the stop sign cause I couldn’t stop, and transitioned to an automatic soon after!

My Dad bought me a 1962 MGB convertible because he wanted me to learn to “really drive”. By “really drive” he meant “double clutch every gear up and down in a car with no power steering, a roof that leaked in the mildest of sunshowers and a gas gauge that didn’t work.”

But good grief, I fucking loved that car.

I have actually been to this driving school……AMAZING. First day of school is 25 minutes in a class room, 7 hour’s in 325’s. The whole experience isn’t with average car’s, instructors, or lessons. The second day is spent pushing EVERY BMW made car with the other class mates. The school is led by racing fanatics that tell you to push the car to it’s limits. Imagine sitting in an $80,000 BMW with someone saying, “take it 85, make the lane change, and then slam on the brakes”. It’s great, they want everybody to learn how powerful a car is, yet feel comfortable enough in any situation that may present itself.

I grew up in a place that was routinely -20 F in the winter. We used to walk our dog Chaco by driving our minivan next to her on an empty road because we didn’t want to freeze our asses off. Stick shift rear wheel drive astro van on icy roads… holla!

Two weeks ago I relearned to drive though…
